FURNACE.
Application 'led October '29, '1924. Serial No. 74656-13.
vMy invention relates more espeoiaflly lto that class oi Aihea'tersfoflf'the smaller type that :irc employed *for heating' residences, more especially With the use ot steam :or ava-ter` andan object 'ot my invention, among` others, is 'the provision ot' a heater 'having -novel means tor rraising vthe Atom-pera-ture -o-tr` 'the water enrp'loyedi-n '.the -hcater Awhereby the -e'tliciency ofthe heater is increased.
@ne iorm of heater Aembodying` -n'ry "invention and in the construction and luse ol which .the objects .herein set out., 4as Well as others, vnia-y V'be attained, is illustrated in the accompanyingl drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in i'ront elevation of that portion oit a 'furnace or heater in prox im'ity to and including 'the usual teed opening tor the supply of fuel to the furnace.
Figure 2 is a top view of the same with parts broken away to show construction.
F igure 4 is a detail view, scale enlarged, showing` the construction ot' the hinges 'for said door to provide for the flow of Water to the heatingl compartments Within the door and in section on a plane denoted by the dotted line 4 4 ot Figure 2. Y
1n the accompanying' drawings theV numeral 5 indicates that portion of the jacket ot a furnace or heater containing the opening tor the supply of fuel to the heater, such opening` beingl formed Within a door frame 7 secured to the jacket. A door 8 is pro vided tor the opening G, this door being mounted to swing upon hinge supports includingjears 9 preferably integral With the trame 7, this hinge support being especially constructed tor the flow ot Water and in a 'manner to be hereina'tter described. The trame is also provided with a projection 1() the outer edge ot which constitutes a seat for the door. j
te reservoir 11 comprises a projection ex tending inwardly troni the inner face ot the door 8 and to a considerable distance within thc furnace, in the structure herein shown such projection extendingl substantially one-halt way across the tirepot. AThis projection has double Walls at its top, bottoni, sides and back, between which Walls a water compartment 12 is Jformed. This projection is in thc torni of a hood and, thereiore, chamber 13 exists in the central por tion ot the compartment and a draught tube 14 extends through said chamber-opening at the face ofthe door and at vthe baol of the projection lil flfor the suppl-y oi' oxygen within the troep-ot, xwhich lpassage may be controlled by =a damper 15, oit any usual l't'orm and construction.
The projection 11 is curved as at 23 on one side to permit the door 8 to be opened Without obstruction by said projection. This construction provides a heating' compartment located directly over the lire Within the lirepot, and extending' into said tirepot to a distance to enable extremely beneficial results to he obtained in the heating of Water Within the compartment 12, and at the same time this heating elen'ient does not obstruct the operations ot supplyingfuel to the irepot, as when the door is opened such heating element is temporarily removed trom the lirepot, thus pern'iitting` the supply ot' fuel, and .when the door is closed the heating element is again placed in position.
In accordance with the provisions of the pat-ent statutes l have described the principles ot' operation of my invention, together with the 'device which l now consider to represent thebest embodiment thereof; but I desire to have it understood that the device shown is only illustrative, and that the inv vention may be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set out.
I claim- 1. A Water heater comprising a. iirepot, a doorto close the opening to said irepot, a projection extending from the back face of Liu the door inwardly within said firepot, said projection being in the form of a hood having a single water compartment Within its walls on all sides within the irepot, land circulatory pipes connected with said coinpartment.
2. A water heater comprising a lirepot, a door to close the opening to said irepot, a projection in the form ot' a hood extending 'from the back Atace of said door inwardly within said iirepot and having parallel double walls to constitute a single water heating compartment between said walls, and circulatory pipes connected with said compartn'ient.
3. A Water heater comprising a lirepot, a door to close the opening to said tirepot, a projection extending :trom the hack face ot' said door inwardly within the tire pot and having a water compartment therein, hinge ears each comprising a bulbous formation on the outer face of the door and having an enlarged water chamber therein communicating with the water compartment in said project-ion7 hinge ears secured to the furnace trame, and hollow7 nipples projecting through the hinge ears on the door trame and secured to and having the openings in the nipples communicating with said chambers in the hinge ears upon door.
4. A water heater comprising a iirepot, a door to close the opening to said lirepot.I a hollow project-ion extending from the hack tace of the door inwardly within the trepot and having double walls comprising a water compartment, a draught passage extending' from the face oll the door through the hollow portion ol said projection and through said water compartment to the back end of the door, and circulatory pipes connected with said compartment.
