L. v. GELDER- HOT WATER HEATER Filed Nov; 26. 1920 Leo V Gelder.
Patented May 27, 1924.
.TA IES F F E Q iii.
I-IOT-XVATER HEATER.
Application filed November 26, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEO V. GELDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in l-Iot-IVater Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved hot water heater particularly useful for heating a domestic boiler and a hot water radiator sys tem either together or independently of each 1 other.
' My invention is illustrated in, the annexed drawing which forms a part of this specification.
The figure in the drawing is a vertical section of my heater applied to a domestic boiler and a hot water radiator system.
My heater includes two water heating chambers l and 2 and two burners 3 and l located respectively adjacent said chambers. The chamber 1 is formed with a vertical member 5 and a horizontal member 6 ex tending outwardly from the upper end of said vertical member. The chamber 2 is formed with a vertical member 7 and a horizontal member 8 extending outwardly from the upper end of the member 7. The chamhers I and 2 are arranged with their inner sides facing each other and at a short distance apart. The chambers 1 and 2 and the burners 3 and 4 are mounted in the lower open end of a domestic boiler 10, the bottom wall 11 of said boiler being located above the lower end thereof and just above the chambers 1 and 2. The burner 3 is located near the outside of the vertical member 5 and under the horizontal member 6 of the chamber 1. The burner 4 is located near the outside of vertical member 7 and under the horizontal member 8 of chamber 2. The burners 3 and at have shields 12 and 13 for shielding the flames of the burners from water dripping from the horizontal members 6 and 8 of the chambers l and 2. A water supply tube let extends through the wall of the boiler below the bottom wall 11 and connects to a tube 15 extending upwardly into the lower end of the vertical member 5 of the. chamber 1. A cap 16 screws onto the lower end of the tube 15. A tube 17 extends from the top of the chamber 1 through the bottom wall 11, into the boiler 10 to a point near the top thereof. A pipe Serial No. 426,481.
18 is connected to the lower end of the vertical member 7 of chamber 2 and to a radiator 20. A water supply tube 21 is connected to the pipe 18. A pipe 22 connects the lower parts of the radiators '20 and 25 and is connected with the horizontal member 8. A pipe 26 leads from the radiator 25 and connects to the radiator 20. A tube 30 extends centrally through the'boiler 10 from the bottom wall 11 just above the space between the vertical members 5 and 7 of the chambers l and 2 which tube, provides a draft for the burners 3 and 4 which heat the water in the boiler.
Both burners 3 and a may be used to heat the water in the boiler 10 or the burners 3 or 4: may be used independently to heat the water in the boiler.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. In combination with a domestic boiler and a hot water radiator system, two water chambers located beneath said boiler, a burner located adjacent each water chamber, a tube leading from one of said water chambers into said boiler, a water inlet pipe communicating with said water chamber and the other chamber being included in said hot water radiator system.
2. In combination with-a hot water radiator system and a domestic boiler having a tube extending centrally therethrough, two water chambers spaced apart and located beneath said boiler, the space between said chambers registering with the tube through said boiler, a burner for each chanr her, a tube extending from one of said chambers into said boiler, a water inlet pipe communicating with said chamber and the other chamber being included in said hot water radiator system.
3. In combination with a hot water radiator heating system and a domestic boiler, two water chambers located beneath said boiler, each chamber including a vertical member and an outwardly extending memher at the top of said vertical member, a burner for each chamber, a tube extending from one chamber into said boiler, a water inlet pipe communicating with said chamber, the other chamber being included in the hot water radiator system.
4:. In combination with a hot water radiator heating system and a domestic boiler having a tube extending centrally therethrough, two water chambers located beneath said boiler and spaced apart directly below said boiler tube, each chamber including a vertical member and a horizontal member extending outwardly from the top of said vertical member,- a burner for each chamber, a tube extending from one chamber into said boiler, a water inlet pipe communicating with said chamber and the other chamber being included in said hot water radiator system. i
5. In comb'nation with a hot water radiator system, and a domestic boiler having a central vertical flue, two water chambers mounted beneath said boiler and spaced apart at the center of said boiler, each water chamber including a vertical member and a horizontal member at the upper endof said vertical member, two burners located beneath said horizontal members respectively, a tube extending upwardly from one chamber into the water compartment of said boiler, a water supply tube connectedto said chamber, the other water chamber being; included in said hot water radiator system.
6. In combination with a hot Water radiator system and a domestic boiler having; a central vertical flue, two water chambers mounted beneath said boiler and spaced apart-atthe center of said boiler, each water chamber including a vertical member and a horizontal memberatthe upper end of said vertical member, two burners located beneath the horizontal members and substantially parallel with the vertical members or said water chambers respectively, a tube extending upwardly from one chamber through the bottom wall of the boiler into the water compartment of said boiler, a water supply tube for said chamber, the other Water chamber being included in said hot water radiator system.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
LEO V. GELDER.
