My invention has for its object to improve such classes of devices in order to render them more effective in operation; and to this end my invention consists of caps arranged on the end of the slotted casing, said caps having an annular recess for the reception of the ends of the casing, and being provided with a bearing for the end of the curtain-roller, and an ear for supporting the whole in the brackets, as will be hereinafter described.

In the accompanying plate of drawings our invention is illustrated, Figure 1 being a side view and partial section Fig. 2, a vertical cross-section of one of the caps; Fig. 3 a vertical cross-section in plane of line w 00, Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 a plan view of an end of easing with cap and bracket.

Ain the drawings represents a curtain-roller B, the curtain; (J, the casing or covering. This casing O is of the length of the roller A, and of tubular form, and is ot'sufficient diameter to re ceive and surround the roller and curtain when entirely wound up. In the present instance the casing O is in two longitudinal sections, D" and E. At the top a they are close together, but at the bottom b they are cut away sufficiently between the two extreme ends to leave a slit or opening, 0, of sufticient width and length to allow for the passage of the curtain B and curtain-cord F in its operation. G, the caps. These caps G have in their inside faces d an annular groove, 0, to receive the ends of the casing O. In the center of each cap G is a bearing, f, in which the curtain-roller A, by its pivot y, can revolve. On the outside of cap G is the ear-piece H. This ear-piece H on each cap G is of square form, and is intended to rest in a corresponding socket, h, in the bracket I, properly secured to windowframe, one at each end of curtain-roller. The curtain, when being operated, turns in the bearings f in caps G, the curtain and curtaiw cord passing through the slit 0, the square earpieces H preventing the caps and easing from turning during the operation of the curtain, as well as when it is still; When a portion or the whole of the curtain is in the casing, obviously it is kept from being soiled or injured by dust or otherwise.

The casin g can be made of any form in crosssection, square, oblong, oval, or otherwise, but circular is 1in'eferab1e; and in lieu of two sections it can be in one, or have more than two, the slit or opening, however, being necessary, and it can be made of metal, wood, or any suitable material.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, with a curtain-roller and the surrounding casing, having a longitudinal slot for the passage of the curtain, ot' the caps Gr arranged on each end of the easing for closing the same, and serving as a hearing for the journals of the curtain, as herein shown and described.

2. The combination, with the curtain-roller and its casing, having a longitudinal slit for the passage of the curtain of the caps G, constructed with the annular recess 0 for the end of the casing, the recess for the end of the curtain-roller, and ears H for supporting the casing and roller in the brackets, as herein shown and described.
