C. H. UPRIGHT GAS BURNER Filed May 14, 1926 mm)! [HHQLEE/ZLPl/M Patented Apr. 12, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GAS BURNER.
Application filed May 14,
This invention relates to improvements in gas burners and the objects of the invention are to provide a simply constructed and etficiently operable adjustable burner provided with adjustable means for regulating the extent of the illumination and the amount of gas consumed.
Further objects are to provide an improved gas burner of economical construction with which more satisfactory results will be obtained with a minimum consumption of fuel.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists essentially in the com bination, with a gas burner provided with engaging means, of an adjust-ably mounted cover adapted to engage with and fit over the burner.
Referring now to the drawings in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure:
Figure 1 is aperspective view of my improved gas burner, and
Figure 2 is a longitudinal, sectional, view.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, in which a preferred example of my in vention is disclosed, 10 designates the gas supply pipe communicating with a gas pipe 12 provided with an air intake 13 of any suitable construction, here shown as a sleeve 14 having openings 15 therein adapted to register with openings 16 in the gas pipe On the other end of the pipe 12- is a vertical gas pipe 17 on the open end of which is mounted a funnel member 18 nrovided with a spider 19 in which is a screw threaded 1926. Serial No. 109,118.
opening 20. This opening is designed to engage with the threaded stem 21 of a supporting pin on which, through a threaded opening in the apex thereof 23, is mounted a cone-shaped cover member 2a adapted,
on being rotated, to move upwardly or downwardly in relation to the funnel 18.
In operation it will be seen that, by turning the threaded stem 21, the cover 24. will be moved upwardly or downwardly in its relationship to the tunnel 18, thereby regulating the extent of the flame in the funnel member and, at the same time, spreading it.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparentiy widely dili'erent embodiments of my invention, within the scope of the claim, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the present specification and accompanying drawings be interpreted in an illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
A gas burner comprising in combination with a gas supply pipe, a tunnel for said pipe, a spider formed in the funnel having a threaded opening therein, a pin formed with a head and adapted to adjusta'vbly engage with the spider, and a substantially cone shaped cover member rigidly mounted on said pin.
In witness whereof I have hereunto setmy hand.
