' PAPER-HANGERS TABLE.
Application filed May 12, 1926. Serial No. 108,557.
My present invention pertains topa-per hangers tables ordinarily referred to as paste tables; and it contemplates the provision of a simple and inexpensive means applicable to and adapted for use on such tables and calculated to facilitate providing strips of wall paper with perfectly square ends.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a perspective showing a paper hangers table equipped with my invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail side elevation showing one of the side plates of my improvement.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in both views of the drawings.
The table 1 shown in Figure 1 may be and preferably is, in general, of the ordinary construction, the same being supported by legs 2 or by any other appropriate means.
I also show in Figure 1 a straight edge 3 properly arranged in relation to the side plates 4 of my improvement to assure the cutting of a perfectly square end on a strip of wall paper.
The side plates 4 may be and preferably are formed of appropriate sheet metal, and by reference to Figure 2 I would have it understood that each of the plates 4 is provided adjacent to its heel end with a vertical slot 5 and is provided in its forward end with a horizontal slot 6.
The table top 1 is equipped on its side edges at about the distances illustrated from the end of the top with headed projections 5 and 6 the said headed projections for the sake of economy being formed by screws partly driven into the longitudinal edges of the top 1. The plates 4 are held by the said headed projections in proper working position on the table top 1, and it will be readily appreciated that when it is desired to remove the plates 4 from the top 1, the same may be readily accomplished by first lifting the heel ends of the plates 4 so as to disengage the same from the projections 5 after which the plates may be withdrawn from engagement with the projections 6". From this it follows that in order to properly position the plates 4 0n the table top 1, it is simply necessary to engage the forward ends of the plates 4 with the headed projections 6 i. e., so that the shanks'of the projections 6 are received in the slots 6, and then move the rear or heel portions of the plates 4 downwardly so that the shanks of the projections 5 are received in the slots 5.
The straight edge 3 may be and preferably is formed of steel and is designed to be arranged relative to the top 1 and the plates 4 as shown in Figure 1.
In the practical use of my improvementthe operative rolls a roll of paper out on the table, and positions one side edge of the paper even with the edge of the table top 1. Then by placing the straight edge 3 above the paper and against the forward edges of the side plates 4, the operative is enabled to cut the paper so as to produce thereon a perfectly square end calculated to save considerable labor and trouble in the application of the paper to a wall. It will also be appreciated from the foregoing that as .soon as the cutting is completed, the side plates 4 may be expeditiously and easily detached from the table top 1 and placed in a tool kit. In this connection I would have it understood that the headed projections 5 and 6 are so set as to enable the plates 4 to fit snugly between the heads of the projections 5 and 6 and the longitudinal edges of the table top 1.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that a paper hangers table or paste table equipped with my improvement is materially advantageous for the purpose stated; that my novel side plates 4 are extremely simple and inexpensive in construction; and that the said side plates 4 are susceptible of being expeditiously and easily applied to and as readily removed from a paste table.
While I have explicitly described my improvement, I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the precise structure disclosed, my invention being defined by my appended claims within the scope of which modifications may be made without departure from my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, 1s:
1. In combination, a paper hangers table top, headed projections carried by each of the longitudinal edges of said top spaced apart and also spaced from the adjacent end of the top, and side plates each having a vertical slot adjacent to its heel end and a horizontal slot in its forward end, said slots receiving the headed projections where'- by the plates are detachably supported on the shanks of the projections and between the heads thereof and the side edges of the to As a new article of manufacture, a side plate for use on the top of a paper hangers table and detachable therefrom;
the said side plate having a vertical slot reaching upwardly from its lower edge at a point adjacent to and spaced from the heel end of the plate and also having a longitudinal slot reaching rearwardly from its forward edge; the said slots being adapted to receive a projection on the table, whereby the plate will be detachably maintained in working position on the top.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
