This invention relates generally to dies which are used for cutting or dieing out blanks of thin sheets of comparatively soft or semi-rigid material, and pertains more particularly to the class of (lies used with a clicking press 1 to cut out blanks for the various parts of the uppers of boots and shoes and the like. The die is, also,'capable of use in perforating presses against paper or against solid based steel or wooden blocks. The invention is, also, adaptable to WValker dies and barrel dies; and, by suitably attaching thereto a handle, may be used as a hand mallet die. One object of the present invention is to provide a die which comprises a minimum number of parts and which may be manu factured at less expense than the dies hitherto employed for the same purpose.
Another object is to provide a holder or supporting block for the stabs, blades, and
the like which will permit of their direct and ready insertion in the block in any desired position.
Another object is to provide a novel, simple, and easily attachable and detachable resilient ejector means.
Other objects and advantageswill appear in the course of the followin description, and various usesother than t ose enumerated herein will suggest themselves as the description proceeds.

Figure l is a perspective view of one embodiment of this invention, the stripper pad being partly broken away;
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 in Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 44: of Figure 1.
Referring to the form exhibited in Figscrews 3, which are threaded or screwed into the marginal edge of the slab 1, and therebyure 1, a base 1, preferably formed of a slab may be made therein without departing hold the blade 2 thereto. The blade 2 pro jects beyond the slab side 4, the projecting edge 5 of the blade 2 being beveled or sharpened to form a cutting edge. The free ends 6 of the blade 2 may be welded together to form one continuous endless blade,
presenting an unbroken cutting edge 5. The
projecting portion of the blade 2 may have one or more short lateral bends or loops 7, which deviate from the normal outline of the slab 1. The deviations 7 produce irregularities in the outline of the blank formed by the die, which irregularities may serve the purpose of marking the blank for stitching or lapping or other purposes. Blades 8 may, also, project from within the outline of the die, being held in slots 9 by means of wedges 10, as best shown in Figure 3.

For the purpose of holding securely, while cutting, the stock from which the blanks are to be out, the side 4 of the slab 1 bears a pad 11 of soft, resilient material, such as rubber, which conforms to any unevenness inthe surface of the stock and bears on all abuttin parts thereof with an evenly distribute pressure, such as can not be obtained through'the employment of the rigid type of stripper commonly used in dies.

of rubber, useful in properly placing the stock with relation to the die, may be cemented to the outer surface of the adll.
One or more stabs 20 may be imbe ded in the bases 1 or 13, their ointed ends 21 projecting above the sur ace of the base to mark theblank for stitching, lapping, and, the like. I
Having thus described this invention, I hereby reserve the benefit of all changes in form, arrangement, order, or use of parts, as it is evident that many minor changes from the spirit of this invention or the scope of the following claim.
I claim:
A blanking die comprisinga slab of material having the out-line of the blank to be secured to the said slab and adapted for produced thereby, a thin blade intimately abutment against theisaid blank and a 10- following the periphery of the slab and eating stop of soft resilient material ceapertured for the reception of screws, screws mentedto-the saidpad.
