Description

GRATE BASKET Filed Nov. 15, 1955 b 1:7. WSiep/zwson By 6 g I fim/Hlomey Patented Aug. 11, 1936 UNETED STATES PATENT OFFIQE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in grate baskets, the general object of the invention being to form the bottom and front of the baskets separately with means whereby they can be easily and quickly connected together or separated whereby a new bottom can be bought and installed when the old bottom becomes burned, without buying an entire new basket.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is a front view of the device.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary edge view.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a part of the front portion.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a part of the bottom portion.
In this drawing, the letter A indicates the bottom member and the letter B the front member, these members being of any suitable form but are made separate and with the lower end of the front member B being enlarged on its rear face as shown at l with the enlargement having a recess 2 therein and an upstanding flange 3 at the rear end of the recess. It will, of course, be understood that each depending part of the member B is formed with a recess and a flange as shown more clearly in Figure 3. The front end of the member A has its bars adapted to fit in the recesses 2 and each bar has a groove 4 in its under edge for receiving the flange 3. Thus by tilting one of the members the front edge of the member A can be placed in the recesses 2 and then by straightening the member the flanges 3 will enter the grooves and thus the two members will be firmly connected together but can be readily separated whenever desired so that if .either member becomes broken or damaged the front member can be discarded and a new one substituted therefor without the necessity of buying both a bottom part and a front part.
The side edges of the front member 13' are formed with the dovetail recesses 5 therein for receiving the dovetail base parts 6 of the hooks i which are used for holding the front member in place. These dovetail recesses and parts 0 provide means whereby the hooks can be adjustably connected with the front member.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be} understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A grate basket of the class described comprising a front part, a bottom part and means for detachably connecting the front edge of the bottom part to the lower edge of the front part, said means including a recess in the lower end of the front part having an upstanding rear wall, the recess receiving the front edge of the bottom part and said front edge having a groove in its lower portion for receiving the upstanding walls and said front part having an enlargement overhanging the recess and abutting the upper surface of the bottom part.
