IMPROVEMENT IN TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,304, dated April 20, 1875; application filed July 3, 1874.

Be it known that I, LoUIs POSTAWKA, of
'(Jambridgeport, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Tables, Stands, &c., of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a sectional elevation of a table contrived according to myinvention. Fig. 2 is a plan View with a part broken ofi' and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one of the fasteningbolts, and a section of the plug for fastening the bolt in the socket in the standard.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the base; 13, the standard; 0, the table-top, and D the cross-piece of the frame E, to which the tabletop is attached for attaching it to the standard. In order to connect the parts, so that the top standard and base may be readily separated for packing econom ically, I make a recess or socket, 1*, in each end of the standard, as large as the head of a carriage-bolt, G, of proper size for the size of the table, fit the bolt in, as shown, and then till the socket snugly by a tubular plug, H, which I glue in, and thus permanently secure the bolt in the standard, so that it can be em ployed, in the manner indicated, for-bolting the base and top to it. Besides the bolt, I fit one or more dowel-pins, G, of Wood, in each end of the standard, to prevent the bolt from turning. The nuts may be fastened by friction-washers or other means. One or more standards may be connected in like manner to the base and top.
Havingthus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- A fastening for table-standard legs, stand Aconsisting ofa headed and mid-threaded bolt, G, and a tubular filling, H, which is let into and adhesively secured to a socket, substantially as shown and described.
