IMPROVEMENT IN HANDLES FOR CRQSSCUT-SAWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,022, dated April 13, 1875; application filed January 30, 1875.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. BoYNToN, of Battle Greek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Handles for GrosseutSaWs, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in adjustable and detachable handles for crosseut-saws; and consists in the peculiar construction and combination, with a handle provided with a screw-threaded tang, of a clip and hooked nut, which grasp the edges of the saw-blade, which is clamped to the handle by rotating the latter, as more fully hereinafter set forth.

In the drawing, A represents a wooden handle, in which there is secured an iron rod or tang, B, projecting from its lower end through a metal ferrule, a., the said tang being screwthreaded at its lower end, to receive a nut, C, having one flat side, which terminates in a hook, b, to engage with the lower edge of the saw-blade. D is an oval clip-plate sleeved on the tang above the nut, with one or more ribs, c, on one side ot' the hole. rIhere is a sleeve Cast 0n its back around the opening, which sleeve passes up into the handle through the hole in the ferrule. The saw is inserted between the tang and the ribs c under the plate C, and by rotating the handle the nut is moved up the screw-tang, and the saw is thus clamped firmly in place. What I elaim as my invention is- The nut C having the hook b, and the elippla-te D having the rib c, in combination with the screw-tang B, handle A, and ferrule a, oonstructed and arranged substantially as described and shown.
