CROWN RING.
r1 his invention relates to improvements in crown rings used in harness construction.
Crown rings as now Ordinarily made arel ed to permit a better connection of Ythe brow strapin front, crown strap on top and cheek strap below, and having a rear edge ring portion fory receiving a throat strap connector. f
A further objecto the invention is to provide a crown ring formed to conveniently receive the different straps and p having means for preventing the needle in sewing the strapsto the 'ring from running-off the edges of the straps. Adurtherobject ot the invention is to provide a Crown ring havingmeans for preventing dust and dirt from working yinto the spaces formed by the loops oil the straps.
A further object of' the invention is to provide a crown ringy which is of' simple construction,V is strong'and durable and is well adapted for the purpose described.
lith the above` and other objects in view the invention :consists of the improved crown ring and its parts and combinations as set l'forth in the claims and all "equivalents thereof. l
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the saine parts in all of the views:
Fig. 1 is a erspective view of the upper portion of a bridle provided with the improved crown ring;
Fig. 2 is a side view on a larger scale7 of thecrown ring with some of the straps removed, and one of the straps partly broken away; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 5 indicates cheek bands or straps, 6 the 'crown band or strap, 7 the brow band or strap, and 8 one of the blinds. Said blinds are connected to the cheek strapsin any manner desired. Each improved crown ring 9 is Application filed February '7, 1925. Serial No. 7,5789.
preferably in the form of a casting and is' -provided with a central elongated slot or opening 10 through which Aextends the loop 5 of the cheekstrap 5 and the loop (ot the head strap 6. The said Slot is formed by an upper transverse bar portion 11, a lower transverse bar portion 12 and opposite side bar portionsk 13 and 1li which extendV above and below the transversebar portion to form stitch line supports 15 which are tapered upwardly and downwardlyto fit the tapering spaces 16 formed by the strap loops 5 and 6. The transverse bar portions 11 and 12 are Vprovided with upwardly and downwardly extending tongues 1l andA 12 respectively, which also form stitch line supports. TheV 'forward edge portion of the .crown ringisA provided with an eye` 17 of elongated "form vertically7 through which eye the loopedportion 7- oi" the brow yband 7 extends- The rear edge portion of the crown ring 1sl also provided with an eye 18 and the opening of which is` somewhat' of egg formation with the larger diameter at the lowerpart to receive the connector hook member 19.0t the throat strap 20. SaidV connector carries a ring 21 through which the reins22 extend.. v Y
The bars and eyes of the crown ring are so formed and proportioned kas to hold the cheek and head Straps lin alined position 'with rela-tion to each other andthe brow band is maintained in aposition extending at approximately right angles to the cheek and head straps. The throat strap connector eye 18 is alsoformed to pivotally and removably hold the throat strap in alined position with thepeye while permitting movement of said throat strap.
In sewing the portions of the loops which extend through the elongated slot of kthe crown ring the thickness of the metal beM tween the portions of the leather causes ve0 I the needle to run 01T the side of the strap lll the portionel of the etrap forming the loop and prevent the entr)T of dust and dirt therein. Furthermore Said extension, tongues and the linee of Sewing also serve to hold the straps and crown ring in alined poeitione.
From the foregoing description, it will be eeen that the crown ring is of very simple construction and is well adapted for the pnri pose describtal.
that I claim as my invention is: 1. A crown ring consisting of a member having an elongated medial opening and `eved portions at the front and rear edges the rear `edge eye portion being of elongated form vertieall)y and having a widened portion at its lower end.
` 3. A crown ring consisting of a flat member provided with an elongated medial opening having its longest length extending hori- `zontalljy for connection with head and cheek straps, the forward and rearward edge portions of the member having eyes, the for ward eye being of elongated form with the greatest length extending vertically for connection with a brow strap, and the rearward eye being ot rounded elongated form with a widened portion at its lower end, Said rearward c ve beingI adapted to removablyv receive a throat strap connector.
et. A crown ring consistlngof a member provided with an elongated medial opening having its longest length extending hori- Zontally l'or connection with the head and cheelietrapi-t, Said member also having exteneions for supporting edge `portions;l of the etrape4 while being eewed, the forward and rearward edge portions of the member having eyes, the forward eye being of elongated form with the greatest length extending vertically for connection with a brow strap, and the rearward eye being of rounded elongated form for removably receiving a throat strap connector.
5. A crown ring consisting of a member provided with an elongated medial opening having ite longest length extending horizontally for connection with head and cheek atrapa, said member alleo having upwardly and downwardly projecting extensions for Supporting edge l'iortions of the straps while being a `wed to the member, the forward and rearward edge portions ofthe memlier hav-- ing' eyes, the forward eye being o't' elongated form with the greateet length extending vertically for connection with a brow strap, and the rear fard eye being approximately oi egg shape with the largerdiameter below :t'or removably receiving a throat strap connector.
(i. A crown ring consisting of a men'iber provided with an elongated medial opening having its longest length extending horizontally for upward connection with a head strap and downward connection with a cheek Strap,` said member also having. upper and lower edge extensions and medial tongues for supporting edge and medial portions of the strape while being sewed to the member. the forward and rearward edge portions of the member having eyes, the forward eve being of elongated forin `with the greatest length extending vertically for connection with a brow strap, and the `rear y'ard eye being approziinrately ojl egg Shape with the larger diameter below for removzrbly receiving a throat strap connector.`
In testimony whereof1 l al'lix mv signature.
