Description
.S. A. DURRISUN. I Metal Switch for Killing Insects.
No. 161,870. Patented Aprill3,l875.
;ra rns FFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN METAL SWITCHES FOR KILLING INSECTS.
Spec fication forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,870, dated April 13, 1875; application filed March 10, 1875.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. DORRI- SON, of Clinton, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Metal Switch for Killing Insects; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ot'the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making apart of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the handle detached from the switch. Fig. 3 is a view of. the switch.
This invention relates to a switch for killing flies, mosquitoes, and other insects that are so common to dwellings and my invention consists in a metal switch formed of fine metal wires, in a manner as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing, A is designed to represent the metal switch, and B the metal handle. The switch is composed of fine wires of any suitable metal, arranged in very thin layers, and the wires spread out far enough apart, so
that when using the switch, as you strike, the
wind will pass between the wires, and the fly or other insect will not feel the pressure of the air.
In connecting the switch to the handle the wires in the end are held together by wire cord or other suitable means, and then is dipped in molten metal, which permanently secures them together. The end of the switch is now inserted in the handle, the same being a plain metal tube, B, after which the tube is flattened, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, securely connecting the two together, making a very simple device for the purpose for which it is intended.
Having now fully described my invention,
what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, a switch, for killing insects, composed of line metal wires, as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL A. DORRISON.
Witnesses:
JOSHUA THISSELL, HORACE A. THISSELL.
