Apeucatioii filed iuiy 1e,
'Y invention relates to garments y, and particularly to a cuifV construction andthe object of the invention is to provide'a novel form of adjustable cui which may be used on the bottom of knickers and other similar' locations. The improved cuff construction ,is of the familiar open type, it having a tab on one edge and a buckle on the other edge by which the two edges ot the cuff may be buckled together. The buckle construction rovides an amount of adjustment which is limited by the length of the tab. j
Itis an object oi' my improvement to profvide an added' adjustment without lengthening the tab and' this is accomplished by a novel manner of' securing the buckle to the cuff so that the position of the buckle `can be its ends.
shifted. The buckle is retained in place by'v 'means of a strip of cloth sewed at its ends to the cuE, the strip passing over one of the 'bars of the buckle, which will be referred to as the anchoring b'ar. f Y Means are provided whereby the Vstrip may be'fastened to the cuff intermediate of lVith this construction the buckle may be located with its anchoring bar against the end of the retaining strip or may be located in position with its anchoring bar in engagement with the intermediate fasteningineans. `In this way an addedadjust- Y ment is provided beyond that which thetab Y nient can itself would afford.
1 The invention is specially desirable in connection with knickers. The ordinary buckle i construction which is commonly used on the cuffs of knickers is not always adequate because even when adjusted asV small as the taby will allow the cuff is sometimes too large for some persons. With my invention, however, if a person has slender legs added adjustbe secured by shifting the position of the buckle.
In order to give an `understanding of the invention I have illustrated in the drawings a selected embodiment thereof which will now be described after which the novelrfeatures will be pointed out in the appended claims. f
Fig. 1 is a perspective viewof a pair of knickers'embdying my invention; j'
Fig. 2 is an enlarged Vfragmentary detail Vview showing Vthe improved way of securing the buckle tothe cuff Figs. 3 and 4 are sections on the line Fig. 2; Fig. 3 showing the buckle in one advtracted position,
1,9276., sensi laatse. just/ed" Fig. 5is a perspective view ofA the buckle. In the` drawings 1 'indicates a pair j of knickers which isprovided at the bottom of its legs with the usual cuff portions 2, each cuil?.v being divided as shown at 3.y One edge 4 of the cuff is provided with the usual'tab j positionandfFig, 4 showingit inani other 'adjusted position; Y f
5 and the other edge 6 carries a buckle 7 to receive the tab, this being the usual construction in knickers.
The buckle 7 is of the type having they usual tab-receiving opening 8'through which the tab 5 is inserted, the bar 9 of the buckle having the teeth 10 to grip the tab. The buckle is also providedV with the usual an'- choring bar 11 by which it is secured to the cu is retained in position by meansof a strap 12 whichis sewed tothe culil at its two ends, as shown at 13, the strap passing through the opening 14 of the buckle and over the anchoring bar 1l and back through the opening 15. The'strap is of some` length and it is providedwith means for detachably securing it tothe cuil intermediate of its ends.
In the constructionherein shown the buckle Y One convenient wayislto use a button for l y ythis, purpose and I haveshown herein such a button 16 which is sewed tothe cu and is 17 formed in the strap 12.
With this construction the vbuckle may be i button, afterwhich the button may be rein-r serted in the. buttonhole. The anchoring bar and the buckle will be Vretained in its reshown in dotted lines Fig. 2.
By this 'means it is possible to give the buckle twodifferent positionsand thus the total amount which the cud may be adjusted is the amount oi. adjustment afforded by :thelength of the tab 5 added lto the amount which the buckle can be adjusted..
will then be anchored against the buttonl 85 i adapted to be .buttoned through af buttonhole I claim: Y n 1, In a, garment, the combination with. a
fr divided cuil portion presenting two edges to be vfastened together, of a tab extending from one edge, a buckle-holding strep secured 'to the other edge, a buckle having across bar extending under thestrap, nd'ineans for fastening the strap to theV garment intermediate of its ends, whereby the buckle-may be .placedwith itsy anchoringbar either at one end of the strep or in a position toengage the detachable fastening means.`
2. In a', garment, the combination with 'a divided'v cuff portion presenting two edges to intermediate of its ends withy a'buttonhole,
and a button carried by the cui portion andY dapted to be entered through the buttonfunder the strap, said strap being provided hole, whereby the buckle may be located j eitherV in a position at the end of the strapV or in a positionfdetermined bythe button.
In testimony whereof1 I have signed` my Vname to this specification.
