than
LINE CUTTER.
Application filed May 5, 1926; Serial No. 106,931.
This invention relates to cable line cutters and has for its primary object the provision of a cutter to be used in lumber camps in cutting log cable lines A further object is toprovide a cutter for log cable lines that is adapted to be positioned upon a wooden supporting means such as a stump, log or railroad tie and when the first piece of cable is cut the action of cutting the cable will cause the prongs which depend from the body of said cutter to embed themselves in the wooden. supporting means, so as to secure the cutter in said means as will be readily apparent.
cutter provided with a removable cutting blade.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, il lustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
7 In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View ofthe line cutter forming the subject matter of the present invention. 1
Figure Q'is a vertical sectional view therethrough.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the cutting blade removed;
Referring to the drawings in detail the reference numerals 1 and 2 indicate the side walls of the body of the line cutter and as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawings. these side walls are curved and converge in a manner to provide an apex of the body at the upper edge of said walls. The apex is formed with a longitudinal slot .3 which is adapted to accommodate the cutting blade 4: as shown in Figures 1 and 2. Ihe outting blade is provided with notches 5 a.r-.
ranged in its end walls and which receive headed pins 6 for securing said cutting blade p Another object is to provide a cable line pending from the corners thereof are prongs 8 which have their outer sides beveled to provide penetrating edges 9. 1
From the above description and the structure as disclosed by the drawings, it will be apparent that the cable line cutter which forms the subject matter of the present in' vention is primarily designed to cut steel wire cable and is adapted to be supported upon a wooden supporting means such as a stump, log or railroad tie so that whenthe cable is laid across the blade 4, the action of striking the cable with an axe or mallet so as to cut the same willcause the prongs 8 to penetrate within the supporting means and retain said cutter in operative positionv for subsequent cuttings.
It is thought from the foregoing description' that the advantages andnovel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall wit in the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A. cable line cutter of the character described comprising a body formed with a longitudinal slot, a blade having notches extending through its ends and said blade being arranged in said slot, pins passing through said body and through the notches of the blade respectively for securing said blade Within the slot, and penetrating prongs depending from said body.
2. A cable line cutter of the character described comprising a body formed with curved side walls converging upwardly to form an apex on said body portion, said apex being provided with a longitudinal slot,
a cutting blade detachably arranged in said slot and being notched at its ends, pins passing through the body and intersecting said slot and arranged in the notches of the cutting blade to secure the latter in said slot. and prongs depending from the corners of the bottom of the body and being tapered to provide penetrating edges.
In testi ony whereof I afiix. my signature.
