Description
June 16, 1931. M. LOWENTHAL MEAT TENDERER Filed July 28, 1928 VENTOR BY I MkQM y ATTORNEY Patented June 16, 1931 MARK LOWENTHAL, 0F NEWARK, NEW JERSEY MEAT TENDERER Application filed July 28, 1928. Serial No. 296,010.
This invention relates to meat tenderers, and has as its object the provision of a device adapted to be used, in the household as well as by tradesmenin general, for pounding steaks and thelike, in order to make the same more tender by breaking the grain of the meat with thecutting edges of a plurality of cutting blades. 7
Another object of my invention is to provide a meat tenderer of comparatively simple construction, wherein discarded safety razor blades may be utilized as cutters. V Y
Another object of my invention is to provide means for rigidly clamping any desired number of said cutters together, in spaced relation, and to an operating handle.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will appear from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein like character numerals designate like parts, saiddrawings forming a material part of this disclosure, and inwhich: Figure 1 represents a side view of the assembled meat tenderer, V
Figure 2 represents an end view of the same, 3
Figure 3 represents a side view of the base orinner clamping plate, used in the device,
Figure 4 represents a side view of the outer clamping plate used in the device,
Figure 5 represents a perspective view of one of the spacing blocks used in the device, and,
Figures 6 and? represent plan views of ordinary safety-razor blades, adapted for use in my device.
In the drawings, 1 represents the-inner clamping plate, which is provided with outwardly extending pins 22 on which cutter blades 3, provided with apertures 4.'4c for the reception of said pins, are mounted. Suitable spacing blocks 5, provided with pin-receiving apertures 41 are interposed between said cutters to maintain them in spaced relation, said spacing blocks being of-smaller size than said cutters to permit the sharp edges 6 of the blades 3 to project therebeyond, as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Although, in Figure 1, six cutters 3 are shown so mounted, agreater or lesser number may be used, as desired.
After the desired number of cutters is so mounted, an outer clamping plate 7 provided with apertures 1 for the reception of the pins 2'2, is mounted on "the outermost cutter, and all of the parts are rigidly clamped together between the inner and outer clamping plates 1 and 7 and to a suitable handle 8 by engagement of the threaded end 8 of a pin. 9, extending from theouter clamping plate 7 f through the centrally located apertures of the cutters 3, spacing blocks 5, and inner clampingplate 1, respectively, with the internally threaded portion of a suitable handle 8.
Ordinary safetyrazor blades may be employed, as cutters, in the device, as shown in Figure 1, provided with three apertures adapted to receive pins 2-2 and 9.
Razor, blades of the imperforate type, such as blade 10, shown in Figure 7, may be used for the same purpose. 1
'When the imperforate blades are used, the rear edges ofsaid blades rest against the pins 2-2 and 9, but the'other parts of the device remain unchanged.
Due to the concentration of the weight of the spacing blocks, cutters and clamping plates at the end of handle 8, positive engage mentof the cutter edges 6 with the meat surface is obtained, when the device is used.
iAlthough the foregoing is descriptive of the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be apparent that minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scopeof the append-ed claim.
Having thus described my invention, what i I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: i q A A meat tenderer, comprising a handle provided witha centrally arranged, threaded recess, aplurality of apertured cutters, said cutters being provided with two oppositely arranged cutting, edges, an inner clamping member provided with aligning pins adapted to pass through the cutters-an outer clamping member provided with a pin having an externally threaded end to threadedly engage the threaded recessed portion of the handle, and spacing blocks between each of the cutters adapted to maintain them in spaced relation, said blocks being of less Width than the cutters whereby both cutting edges of the cutters will be exposed.
This specification signed this 27th day of July, 1928.
MARK LOXVE NTHAL.
