VANITY casu.V
Application iiled June`2r6, 1926.Y Serial No. 118,759.
This invention relates to vanity cases and.
has for an object to provide an'improved case wherein a compact is normally held against removal but so associated with an ejecting device that the compactV may be released and ejected with ease.
Another object of the invention is to .provide in a vanity case an ejecting device associated with the catch, the arrangement being such that an exaggerated operation of the catch structure will also operate the ejector.
A still further object, more specifically, is to provide a compact ejector for vanity cases wherein an inclined member or cam is used for prying the compact away from its clamping means so that it may be easily removed.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure l is a perspective view of a vanity case disclosing an embodiment of the invention. Figure 2 is a sectional view through Figure l, approximately on line 2-2, the saine being on an enlarged scale.
' Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view Y through Figure 2 on line 3- l Figure 4 is a sectional view through Figure 2bn lline 4 4, theY same being on a slightly reduced scale. Y
Figure 5 isa perspective view of a catch, ejector and associated parts embodying certain` features of the invention.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a compact'holder.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, l indicates the body of a vanity case and 2 the lid connected to the body by a suitable hinge 3. Arranged in the body l is a compact holder 4 having resilient members 5 and 6 which pinch to a certain extent the compact plate 7 Arranged preferably diametrically opposite the hinge 3 is a catch 8 which is preferably formed integral with a fiat spring 9'riveted or otherwise secured at l() to the upstandingwall of body 1. In addition to having the catch member 8 co-acting with a suitable member formed on lid 2, the end of the spring 9 is stamped or pressed out vfor forming a thumb member or button 11. If desired, the button or pin l1 could be riveted in place, though ordinarily, the integral struc'- ture is better and also less expensive. The lspring 9 is also provided with an integral extension which is bent for forming a hori zontal section 12, an inclined or cam section 13 and a'vertical or supporting section 14,v y
the lower end of the supporting section 14r and there is asuflicientloose motion to per-.,-
mit'the vbutton 11 to be` pressed for releasing the cap 2but if the button 11 ispressed inwardly as far as possible or until it is substantially iiush with the outer surfacev of body 1, theejeetor will function and the cam or inclined 'surface 13 will move .be-
neatli the edge of plate 7 and raise plate 7 until it is disconnected from the holder After the button 11 has been released,
it will automatically move back to the posi-v tion shown in Figure 2 and anew compact y may beapplied and plate 7 pressed until it snaps into the grooves 15and 16 formed the body of the holder 4.
What I claim is: a 4 1. In a'vanity case provid d with a comat the juncture of members 5 and 6 with pact plate'means for holding ltheV plate'in position, a catch, a springhaving `a free end for holdingv said catch in operative position, and a cam carried by the free end of said spring `and positioned to disconnect said plate from said holder when said spring has been moved a predetermined distance.`
2. In a vanity case a catch provided with a flat spring, means for clamping one end of said spring rigidly 'in position, and a radially movable cam arranged at the free end of the catch acting as a compact ejector when the catch has been moved a mined distance. Y
3. In a vanity case a catchprovided with a flat spring, and a' strip of metal extending from said spring and folded back upon itself for presenting an inclined. cam adapted to act as a compact ejector when the spring has been moved to a certain extent in one direction.
4. In a vanity case a catchV resilientlyheld Y `105 gral therewith presenting an inclined'cam in a given position, andk means formed intesurface acting as a compact ejector.-
WILLIAM o. KENDALL.
