Description
April 23, 1940. c. WARREN CIGARETTE HOLDER Filed Dec. 14, 1938 Inventor d/)2? W01 rrn Attorneys Patented Apr. 23, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to cigarette holders' of a type embodying a finger ring having a clamping device associated therewith for detachably securing a cigarette to the ring, in a convenient position for use while smoking.
An important object oi the present invention is to provide a novel clamping device for a cigarette and attached to a finger ring and including a stationary jaw and a slidably mounted jaw cooperating therewith and spring means yieldably urging the jaws into a closed position, for securing a cigarette in position between said jaws.
A further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction,
' which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted to the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and
Figure 2 is a sectional view through the holder.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a ring adapted for mounting on the finger B of a person, the ring being formed of any suitable material and having at one side a relatively wide portion 1 from which a stationary jaw member 8 projects radially therefrom, the jaw 8 being positioned adjacent one edge portion of the ring while the opposite edge portion at the wide section"! is formed with a flat surface 9.
Slidably positioned on this flat surface 9 is the base portion of a movable jaw H] which also projects radially with respect to the ring, the opposed surfaces or faces of the jaws 8 and I being formed with a recess ll adapted to accommodate a cigarette l2.
A pin I3 is slidably mounted in the stationary jaw 8 and has one end threaded into the movable jaw ID, the outer end of the pin having a head l4 thereonand mounted on the pin between the head and the stationary jaw 8 is a coiled spring I5 adapted to yieldably urge the jaw IE! into a closed position as illustrated by the full lines in Figure 2 of the drawing.
Pressure on the head l4 of the pin, as by the thumb of a person, will separate the jaws whereby 10 to conveniently permit the removal or replacing of a cigarette in the recess ll for clamping engagement bythe jaws.
The flat surface 9 on the wide portion of the ring will prevent turning of the movable jaw in during its sliding releasing movement and thus maintain the same in proper cooperation with the stationary jaw 8.
It is believed the details of construction and manner of operation of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is A cigarette holder comprising a ring having a relatively wide portion at one side thereof, a stationary jaw projecting radially from one edge of said wide portion, the face of the jaw being positioned substantially at the center of'said wide portion, a movable jaw having its inner end conformably fitted on said wide portion for sliding movement relative to the stationary jaw and a spring projected pin extending transversely freely through the stationary jaw and attached to the movable jaw to yieldably urge the latter into a closed position, the sliding engagement of the inner end of the movable jaw on said wide portion of the ring preventing rotation of the jaw on the pin and said pin maintaining the opposed faces of the jaw parallel during opening and closing movement.
CARM WARREN.
