' TOILET SEAT AND COVER Filed Feb. 16, 1925 illi IIIII'II. I'll Patented Feb. 1, 1927.
UNITED STATES DANIEL A. WOLF, OF GIBSON'BURG, OHIO.
TOILET SEAT AND COVER.
Application filed February This invention aims to provide a toilet seat and cover which may be kept thoroughly clean, the'device being water-proof. A11 other object of the invention is to provide a toilet seat and cover which will be well adapted to stand severe use.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in top plan, a toilet seat constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a bottom plan of the seat;
' Figure 3 is a section on the line 33 of Figure 2; Figure 1 is a bottom plan showing a modified form of toilet seat; Figure 5 is a bottom plan of the cover; Figure 6 is a cross section on the line 66 of Figure 5.
The toilet seat and the cover hereinafter described preferably are made of aluminum. The toilet seat shown in Figures 1 and 2 is designated by the numeral 1, and includes a flat base 2 and a convexed top 3 joined integrally with the base at the edges of the base, the seat being hollow, as shown at 4: in Figure 3. On its under side, and at its rear end, the seat 1 may be supplied with recesses 5, adapted to receive hinges (not shown), there being openings 6 in the bases of the recesses 55, the said openings being adapted to receive securing elements whereby the hinges are held in place. The base 2 may be equipped with openings 7 adapted to receive the usual bumpers, made of rubher or the like, the bumpers being adapted to cooperate with the edge of the bowl (not shown).
In Figure 4, the toilet seat is marked by 16, 1925. Serial No. 9,587.
the numeral 8 and is trough-shaped in cross section, the toilet seat comprising a body 9, an inner flange 10, and an outer flange 11. The flanges 10 and 11 are connected by ribs 12, located approximately parallel to the major axis of the toilet seat, and on opposite sides of the said axis, at the rear end of the toilet seat, the ribs 12 having openings 14:, adapted to receive elements whereby hinges may be held on the toilet seat. Near to the forward end of the seat, the flanges 10 and 11 are connected by ribs 15 which are disposed approximately at right angles to the major axis of the toilet seat, the ribs 15 having openings 16, adapted to receive the bumpers which cooperate with the bowl.
The cover 17, shown in Figure 5, comprises a top 18 having a recess 19 terminating at its rear end in a reduced extension 20 defining thickened portions 21 on each side of the extension, the recess 19 being bounded by a marginal flange 22 which is thickened at its lower edge, as at 23, the thickened portions 21 of the cover or lid 17 being supplied with openings 24 located close to the sides of the extension 20 of the recess 19, the openings being adapted to receive securing elements for holding a hinge. Because the flange 22 is thickened as shown at 23, openings 25 may be formed for the reception of the usual rubber bumpers.
The article forming the subject matter of this application will be sanitary, waterproof, and well adapted to stand severe use.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A metal privy-seat cover provided in its lower surface with a recess having a reduced extension located at the back of the cover. the recess forming a flange about the edge of the cover, and the extension forming thickened port-ions at the back of the cover, the flange being joined at its ends to the thickened portions.
in testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed by signature.
DANIEL A. WOLF.
