Description

June 30, 1925.
M. B. BROWN DRAINER FOR sINks Filed Feb. 9 1924 IN VEN TOR jfa y 5. won n.
I WITNESSES I A TTORNE Y'S Patented June 30, 1925.
UNITED STATES MARY B. BROWN, or BROOKLYN, new YORK.
DRAINER FOB, sinks.
' Application filed February 9, 1924 T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that 1,.MARY B. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State New York, have invented a new and Improved Drainer for Sinks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to pro vide a drainer for dishes which may be conveniently adjusted in a sink without interfering with a dish-pan which may be disposed in the sink on the edge of the drainer or in close proximity thereto.
Another object of the invention is to provide a drainer which is adjustable to lit in sinks of different sizes.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification in which the preferred form of my invention is described.
In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts in all the views in which,
Fig. 1 is a plan View showing my drainer;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the drainer bent to fit in a sink;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary, perspective view of a sink showing how my drainer is adjusted therein; and
Fig. 4.- is an enlarged longitudinal, sectional view of Fig. 3.
Sinks in kitchenettes and in apartment kitchens are seldom provided with drainboards for space is economized in every way. This makes it very awkward to find means to properly rinse and drain the dishes after they have been washed in the usual dish-pan. My invention overcomes this difficulty for the drainer described in this specification may be disposed in the sink to fit the sink at one side and the dishes when they are washed in the dish-pan may be disposed on the drainer where they may be sprayed with water from a faucet after which the dishes may drain before they are dried with a towel. Because of the special construction of the drainer it may be adjusted. to fit sinks of different sizes.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the drainer A. which is preferably constructed of rubber has. sides B. and ends C. and 1).. This drainer A. which is ofv flexible material and is constructed preferably from a rubber blank a hook K.
serial No. es1,779.
which has slits E. at its end (3., the said slits E. being spaced apart and from the sides B. At the end C. of the drainer there is a projection F. which is disposed between the slits E. and is preferably spaced from the said slits.
lVith this construction the body of the drainer A. at its end D. may be disposed against the bottom G. of a sink with the sides B. at the end 1). of the drainer disposed up *ardly, one of these sides B. being disposed. against the back of the sink and the other side B. of the drainer being disposed against the front of the sink, the sides B. at the end C. of the drainer being bent at H. and being disposed to rest against the end I. of the sink; the portion of the drainer at J. between the slots, E. being disposed against the sides B. at the end C. This is shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings, the projection F. as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 being disposed over the side I. of the sink, this projection F. having which is provided so that the hook K. may be disposed under the sink edge to hold the projection F. in position as illustrated in Figs. 3 andt of the drawings.
It will be understood that the construction is such that the drainer may be disposed to fit sinks of various sizes inasmuch as the sides B. may be bent up on lines c0ntinuing from the slits E. or along lines which are nearer the side edges of the drainer.
l/Vhen the dishes are disposed on the drainer they may be sprayed from the faucet M As the drainer A. is preferably made of rubber it will serve as a cushion on which to dispose the dishes thereby preventing damage to the dishes when the drainer is in use.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. A drainer formed from a sheet of flexible material having two sides and an end with two slits extending through said end and a projection extending from that part of the said end between the slits.
2. A drainer formed from a sheet of flexible material having two sides and an end with two slits at said end which are spaced apart andsubstantially parallel to the sides,
from one end and having a projection at said end between said slits, said projection and the material between the slits being bent up at approximately'airight tingle with the bottom and the side portions being bent, I
up along lines extending in of the sn'ld slits, and the end portions thereof a'djacent'sa-id slits extending along said first bent up portio ARY B. BROWN.
