Description
E. S. HAKE `PICTURE HANGER Feb. 1' 9 1927..,
Filed Sept'. 2l, 1925 w w l V WWVESSES/ all Patented Feb. 1, 1927.
UNITED STATES ELISABETH S. HAKE, OF FORT ATKINSON, WISCONSIN.
:PICTURE Application filed September rlhis invent-ion relates to article holders and has particular reference toa hanger "1 the provision of a hanger of the above type which is designed to rmly engage picture molding or similar structure and which is comparatively simple and durable of construction.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent as the description progresses.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device constructed in accordance with my invention shown in operative position,
Figure 2 is a central vertical sectional view through the same, and
Figure 3 is a front elevation partially broken away.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 generally designates a section of a. conventional type of molding strip commonly employed on the interior walls of dwellings to permit mounting of pictures and similar articles. This molding, of course, forms no part of my invention and is merely shown to illustrate the application of my improved device in connection therewith.
Referring now more particularly to the structure embodying my invention, the numeral 6 generally designates the body or frame structure of my device, this frame being of substantially U-shaped formation and provided with a suitable projection. The body or frame is preferably formed of two wire strands one of these indicated by the numeral 7 being of L-shaped formation so as to form a vertical leg 8 and a horizontal extension 9, this extension being looped at its end for en- HANGER.
21, 1925, Serial No. 57,743.
gagement with the co-acting strand as will be described more fully hereinafter. The upper portion of the vertical leg 8 is formed in the shape of an S so as to provide a downwardly depending hook 10. The complementary strand embodies a vertical leg 11, a horizontal extension 12 and a vertical downwardly depending portion 13. As will be clearly seen with reference to Figure 3, the horizontal` extension 9 is looped about the upper end of the member 13 so as to connect the complementary wire strands and thus form a unitary frame. The upper entremity of the leg 11 is also provided with an S shaped extension adapted to provide a hook 14. of similar construction and extending in parallel position with the hook 10. rlhe lower extremity of the downwardly projecting member 13 is pointed and externally screw threaded, the purpose of which will become apparent as the description progresses. Positioned so as to envelop the vertical legs of the frame member, is a substantially rectangular shaped casing 15, the lower portion of this casing being flattened so as to securely contact with the legs of the frame while the upper end is somewhat expanded.
Secured to the lower end of the casing 15 and projecting on the rear side thereof is a conventional type 'of picture hook 16 this member being of substantially S-shaped formation and having its lower end tightly engaged by the reduced portion of the casing so that this member will be retained firmly in association with the structure.
In the use of my improved device, it is well known, that at the present time pictures and similar articles intended to be mounted for display upon the interior walls of a building are ordinarily mounted in position by elevating the picture hanger by ascending a ladder or oth-er improvised supporting structure. This is often inconvenient and often results in injury to the person hanging the picture. ln order to hang a picture with my improved device, the picture supporting wire is first positioned over the hooks 10 and 14 before elevation thereof, and a broom handle or similar rod is threadedly secured to the projecting member 13. The device is then elevated to its proper position in association with the picture molding and the bracket 16 positioned in engagement over the projecting edge thereof. To remove the picture, the stick is elevated and liU threadedly engaged with the projection while the bracket is positioned on the molding and lowered so as to permit removal of the picture from the hanger.
It is thus seen, that a hanger of simple and durable construction is provided, designed to engage the picture wire before raising the picture and permit convenient elevation of the hanger and picture. In this manner, pictures and similar articles may be conveniently and safely hung upon the molding without the necessity of climbing ladders or other structures. The device may be manufactured cheaply and sold at a price approximating the cost of the present types of hangers.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is susceptible of modification and that various changes as to the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resort-ed to without departingl from the spirit of the invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention.l l claim:
l. A `device of the class described including a U-shaped frame, hook members formed on the upper ends of the frame, a threaded extension formed on the lower portion of the fra-me, and a casing secured about the intermediate portion of the frame.
2. An article hanger comprising, a `frame provided with forwardly projecting hooks on the upper end thereof, a threaded extension formed on the lower portion of the frame, and a casing mounted about the intermediate portion of the frame secured against movement thereof.
3. A hanger for pictures and like artic-les comprising, in combination, a wire frame having hooks formed on the upper end thereof, a threaded extension formed on the lower portion of the lframe, engageable with a stick or the like, and a rectangular shaped casing securely mounted on the intermediate portion of the frame.
`4. A hanger for pictures and similar articles comprising, in combination, a tti-shaped wire frame having a pair of forwardly projecting hooks formed on the upper extremities, a downwardly directed extension formed in the lower end of the frame, the said extension being engageable with a rod or the like, and a rectangular shaped casing positioned about the intermediate portion of the frame, arranged to tightly engage the lower portion of the frame to prevent movement ofthe casing.
A hanger of the class described including a U-shaped wire frame, arcuate engaging hooks formed on the upper ends, a downwardly projecting threaded extension formed in the lower portion of the frame, a casing secured about the intermediate portion of the frame closely engaging the frame at the lower portion to prevent displacement; and means for attaching the said frame and casing upon a picture molding or the like.
6. A hanger comprising, in combination, a wire frame including a pair of complementary strands formed to provide hooks at the upper extremities, and angular entensions at the lower ends, one of the eXtensions being provided with a downward threaded projecting member, the opposite horizontal extension being` looped about the extensions toprovide a. unitary frame; a casing positioned about the intermediate portion of the frame, compressed at the lower end for tightly engaging the frame; and a bracket member secured tothe lower portion of the casing extending upward in the form of a hook s0- as to engage the picture molding or the like.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
