PIERRE, ALBERT GANDILLON, OF PARIS', FRANCE. I
EINX.
Appiieatio'n nieu January e, 1925. serial Np, 829.
The invention relates to sinks and mere particularly to kitchen sinks, and has for its object to produce a sink in which the voluminous bodies whieh may be contained in the kitchen rubbish or refuse arereduced in size.
A further object of the invention is to provide a sink in which the bad odors are effectively prevent-ed from arising from the solid and liquid matter which have been evacuated from the sink.
The invention will be described hereafter, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which the igure l is a vertical section of the improvement.
Referring to the drawing a represents the sink which as shown is composed of the basin c and the conical body e depending from the basin. In the bottom of the basin c two concentric grates d al are mounted and to the lower end of the conical body e is secured a water seal f provided with an outlet branch g for the descending pipe and with an inspection plug it. Within the conical body c is arranged a depending central tube 'i' perforated at its upper part and surrounded at its lower part bya flexible packing j fitted in a fixed conical cup c at the lower end of the conical body, whilst the upper part of the said tube z' is provided with a head Z constituting a pulling out member.
The vertical space comprised between the Hexible packing j and the upper perforations of the tube v1 constitutes a chamber receiving the water of the sink cock.
About the tube z', at its upper part, is 'provided a movable hollow core m the neck portion of which is fitted in afperforated dia-v phragm 0i secured iii the body c.
This movable cone is actuated, when necessary, by a horizontal lever 0 so as to reduce to a suitable dimension, under the. water plane of the overflow, the voluminous bodies which come between the said core and fixed blades 79 arranged in the body e.
The plunger tube z' can be pulled up by pulling it by its head Z after removal of the central grate d, so that the matters reduced to a suitable size and immersed in the chamber filled with water can be evacuated in the form of a mass at the lower part by causing them to pass the flexible packing j and the wall of the lixed conical cup 7c. The water to be evacuated, poured into the basin passes through the grates d, d1 and the diaphragm n, ascends in the body of the apparatus,
passes through perforations in the hollow core m, fills up the latter, passes through the upper perforations of the central tube z' and fall tothe bottom of the apparatus and from there in the descending pipe g which leads it to a collecting apparatus.
The forms, details, accessories, materialsk and dimensions above mentioned can of course be varied without departing rthereby trom the principle of the invention.
' Claims: i
l. A sink, comprising a basin having a grate in its bottom, a body depending from the basin and carryin a trap at its lower end, a pulverizing device in'the body, and a vertically movable pipe in the body and extending into the tiap, the pipe being provided adjacent its upper end with openings and adJacent its lower end with means whereby the upper end of the trap may be closed.
2. A sink comprising a basin having a grate in its bottom, a conical body depending from the basin and carrying a trap at its lower end, the body being providedon its inner face with blades, a hollow' conical member provided with openings and mounted to turn iii the upper part of the body, and a vertically movable pipe extending .through the conical hollow members and into the trap, the pipe being provided with openings in the hollow conical member and adjacent its lower end with means whereby the upper end of the trap may be closed.
3. A sink, comprising a basin, a conical body depending from the basin and having blades on the inner face a trap secured to the lower end of the body and having a conical member in its upper part, a conical hollow and apertured member mounted to turn in the body and provided with means for turning it, and a vertically movable pipe:
extending through the hollow conical member into the trap, said pipe having openings 1n the part within the hollow conical member and provided adjacent its lower end with a packing for engaging the conical member of the trap tol close the upper end of the trap:
4. A sink, comprising af basin provided with a grate and a central opening in its bottom, a body depending from the basin and carrying a trap at its lower end, a pulverizing device in the body and including a hollow apertured .member mounted to turn, 'a vertically movable pipe provided at its', up er end with a head extending in the' centra oplening of the basin, said pipe extending t rough the hollow member of the pulverizing device into the trap, the portion of the pipe in said member being provided with openin s, and a acking on the pipe adjacent its ower end or closing the upper end of the trap.
5. A sink comprising a basin having two concentric grates in its bottom, the inner grate beinprovided with a central opening, a conical `ody depending from the basin and having blades on its inner face, a trap on the lower end of the body and havinga conical tubular member in its upper part, a perforated partition in the upper part of the body, aiconical hollow member mounted ber, a vertical movable pipe in t e body said pipehaving at its upper end a head extending mto the central opening of said rate, said pipe extending through the conical hollow member and into the trap, the portion of the'pipe in the conical hollow member bein provided with openings and a packing on t 1e said pipe adjacent its lower end and engaging the conical tubular member of the trap.
