CHARLES H. CRAIG, OF QUINCY, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO EDMUND S. SPARROW, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHUTTER AND BLIND FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,329, dated March 30, 1875 application filed January 5, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES .H. CRAIG, of Quincy, county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Blind- Fastening, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is an automatic blind-fastening, consisting of a novel arrangement of a clutch or spring-fastening, for a more particular description of which reference is bad to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a plan view of a window and blind with the fastening applied to the same. Fig. 2 is a section on line A B in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same; and Fig. 4is a modification, showing a double end clutch or spring-fastenin g.
a represents a pin or projection fastened vertically to the blind. I) 0 represent the clutch or spring-fastening, with which the pin or projection a engages. When the blind is opened or closed the pin or projection to is held by the sides of the spring 0, While it can be easily disengaged from the clutch of the spring by a slight pressure on the blind. d represents the window-sill, and e the side of the house, into which the spring-fastenings c are driven and secured. By this method of clutching the pin or projection between the sides of the spring-fastener 0 many of the annoyances so common with blind-fastenings, such as liahil ity to unfasten, noise caused by movement of the blinds, 8m, are avoided. By constructing both ends of the spring as shown in Fig. 4 it may be attached to the blind, and the projections to the building.
The spring-fastenings may be constructed of thin bands of metal or of hardened wire, with suitable sharpened end or screw for attaching the same.
I do not broadly claim the use of a clutch or elastic spring-fastening, as I am aware ihei e are old; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An improved blind-fastening, consisting of the clutch or spring fastening c and the pin or projection a, secured, one to the blind and the other to the window-sill or side of the building, all constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as described and shown, for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES H. CRAIG.
