METAL CLIP.
Application filed December 8, 1923.
The present invention relates to clips for securing; metal sheets to supporting frames of buildings and other structures, and is particularly adapted for firmly securing metal sheets to the supporting frames in the construction of roofs and sides of buildings and other structures and to prevent all lat eral and other movement of the metal sheets.
The clip comprising the present invention is adapted tor firmly securing metal sheets in the manner stated, whether such metal sheets are corrugated, beaded, crimped, or otherwise formed, and sheets of any kind of metal, such as steel, iron, Zinc, copper, process metal, etc., for various kinds of struc tures, including siding, roofing, ceiling, flooring, etc. It is also adapted for firmly sec" ring metal sheets to various forms of supporting members, such as channels, I- beams, angles, Ts, etc.
The accompanying drawing illustrates, by way of eiiample, a preferred form of the present invention.
Referriup in detail to the drawing, a purlin is illustrated as being in the form of an I-beam. A corrugated metal sheet 10 is illustrated as being secured to the purlin by the improved clip comprising the present invention. The middle section 1 of the clip is straight and is provided at or about its centu' with an integral upward extension illustrated as being in the form of a rivet 7, whose lower portion 9 rests upon the upper surface of the I-beam or purlin 5 and whose shank 8 passes through or is formed integrally with the clip and passes through an opening in the metal sheet 10 forming part f a roof or other structure. lVhen the device is in place, the head 7 is flattened as illustrated in the drawing. One end of the clip is bent downwardly as shown at 3 in the drawing, and then inwardly as shown in the. drawing, and thus grasps one of the lateral flanges of the I-beam or purlin 5.
The other end of the clip is bent straight downwardly as shown at 2. The clip is preferably formed of metal that may be bent readily after the clip is in place, as just described and as illustrated in full lines in the drawing. Where the clip is used with an L-beantor channel beam, the end 2 of the clip is allowed to remain in the position shown in full lines at 2 in the drawing.

beam form, however, after the clip is in place, the end 2 of the purlin may be bent upwardly and inwardly to the position shown in dotted lines in the drawing.
It will be observed that by this construction there is a rigid fixed connection between the purlin and the metal sheet 10; also, that where the sheet 10 is arranged in a slanting position, regardless of which way it slants, the clip will prevent the metal sheet from moving upwardly or downwardly; owing to the fact that the clip is preferably fairly narrow, it does not slide laterally on the purlin, particularly when theend 2 is bent to the position shown in dotted lines in the drawing.
The form of clip shown in the drawing may be modified without departing from the present invention, as defined by the ap pended claims; for example, the angle portion 1 and the hook portion 13 may be lengthened or shortened; the chord of the arch, or the upward extension, of the middle section may be lengthened or shortened, and may be located at any part of the middle section; the rivet portion may be located at any point of the middle section or at any point in the upward extension; the head of the rivet portion may be partly above and partly below the middle section of the clip; the clip may be made of metal of any thickness and width to meet strength requirements; the top of the middle section may be curved to correspond to the curvature of the corrugations of metal plates used; the rivet portion may be formed integrally with or separately from the clip itself; and other changes may be made which will readily occur to those skilled in the art without departing from the invention.
I claim:
1. A metal clip for securing metal sheets in building construction, comprising a rightangled bendable section at one end adapted to be bent under a purlin for securing said clip thereto, a hook at the other end, and an arched middle section provided with a rivet.
2. A metal clip for securing metal sheets in building construction, comprising a rightangled bendable section at one end adapted to be bent under a purlin for securing said clip thereto. a hook at the other end, and an arched middle section provided with a rivet whose shank is above the arch of the middle section and Whose head extends from the interior apex of the arch to the bottom line of the middle section of the clip.
3. A metal clip for securing metal sheets in building construction, comprising a rightangled bendable section at one end having a flat purhn-engagmg face adapted to be bent under a purhn for securing said clip thereto,
