|MPRovEMENT|N BALE-TlEs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.1 61,178, dated March 23, 1875 application led March 4, 1875.
GAsE B.
To all Iwhom it may concern Be it known that I, RICHARD TERRELL, a resident of the city of New Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bale-Ties; and Iv do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description ot the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in forming a bale-tie in two sections, and of securing thc same upon'the opposite ends of the baleband, so that when the said ends of the band are brought together they may, through the interposition of the said sections, be securely fastened.
The construction and operation of my irnproved band-fastener will be better understood by reference to the drawing, in which- Figure l represents a perspective view of the two sections of my invention. Fig. 2 represents the opposite ends of a bale-band, as when secured tortheir respective sections, and Fig. 3 shows the fastening complete. Y
The sections A and B may be pressed out of plate or wrought iron, or they may be made of cast or malleable metal, or of any other material. Each section of my invention is provided at a certain distance from one of its ends with a raised bar. a, to which the opposite ends of the metallicband are secured by passing Vthem over and returning them under the same, so that the friction-surfaces opposed to the folded or short ends of the band, by that portion of the plate upon which they rest, will be sufficient to prevent the said ends from being drawn oftA their seats by' any pressure that may be exerted upon the band. One ofthe sections of my invention, B, is provided with a slot, b, while the section A is provided with a tongue, c, the end of which is furnished with a raised T, which is designed for insertion through the slot b of section B, and thereby securely fasten the two sections together.
From the above description it Will readily be perceived that my invention, which is both simple and cheap, may, with facility, be applied to any kind of package, inasmuch as it does not depend upon the expansion of the contents of the same for holding it in position.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A bale-tie consisting of two sections, A and B, the former provided with a raised bar, a, and tongue c, and the latter with raised bar a and slot b, as described, and for the purpose specitied.
. RICHARD TERRELL.
