Description

UNITED STATES PATENT FIEICZE0 HENRY T. DUNLAP, OF GALESBURG, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT lN BOOK-CLIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,886, dated March 16, 1875; application filed January 2, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY T. DUNLAP, of Galesburg, in the county of Knox and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Book-Clips, of which the following is a'specication:
YThis invention relates to improvements in book-clips; and it consists in a double-jawed clamp provided with a closing-spring, and so constructed that one pair oi' the jaws may be made to hold the leaves of one 'side of the book, and the other pair ot' jaws the leaves of the other side, the pairs of jaws connected with each other in such a manner that they may be operated simultaneously, all as hereinafter fully described.
ln the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of my invention in place on a book; and Figs. 2 and 3 are, respectively, side and end elevations thereof.
Referring to the parts by letters, letters A represent two bars similarly formed, their central parts a curved, as shown in the drawings, and their ends ci straight. B is a plate of spring-steel, out away at b b, to graduate the spring, curved as shown, and connected by riveting at the points b b to the bars A. C is an ordinary book.
Reference to Fig. 1 will explain the operation of the invention almost without further explanation. By taking hold of the bars A at a they may be pressed together at that part and separated at the jaws a. The jaws may then be placed on the book, as shown at said Fig. 1, and, the pressure being removed from the parts a, the spring b will draw the jaws of each pair of springs toward each other and clasp the leaves of each side of the book snfticiently close to retain them in the desired position.
The invention may be used for any class of books, but is intended more particularly for Witnesses:
W. B. RICHARDS, CEAS. TUPPEE.
