Application filed. May 31, 1924, Serial No. 717,028, and in Great Britain September lit, 1928.
This invention comprises improvements connected with hair pins of the type having rigid limbs and has for its object to provide means for retaining the hair pin in the hair a so that it will not readily come out and is particularly adapted for use for mounting ornaments on same, thereby reducing to a minimum the risk oi loss of said ornaments and pin.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of ahair pin according to this invention, Whilst Figure 2 is a side elevation of same.
In carrying the present invention into practice as shown upon the accompanying drawings, the Wire forming the limbs 3, 4 of the pin are formed substantially parallel for about two thirds or their length and are .then tapered off and bent over to form the part 5, thereby forming the pin to substantially the shape of the letter M. The part 5 lies slightly at the baclr oi the limbs 3, i so that when the pin is inserted into the hair a certain amount of hair Will be positioned bet n the limbs 3, 41 and the part 5, the part locking the hair and thereby retaining the pin securely in position.
In order to more securely lock the hair the limbs 3, at are preferably sinuously formed at their parts 6 and 7 adjacent to the part 5, although other forms may be used Where desired.
If desired the two upper parts of the pin ,fmay be connected together With a silk or like thread so as to prevent. the hair becoming locked in the V portion of the member 5.
If desired, ornaments of suitable shape may be secured to this pin, as shown dotted in the drawings, this pin not only has the advantage oi securing the hair in the required position but at the same time can be used for securel carrying a valuable hair ornament in the coiilure.
What I claim is A hair pin comprising a length of Wire bent in the centre to form two limbs, the upper portion of said limbs being tapered to substantia ly a t shape Whilst the remaining portions of said limbs are parallel, corrugations formed in the parallel portion of said limbs, said V shaped portion being turned over to lie substantially parallel with the remaining portion of the pin and to lie adjacent to the corrugations formed in the parallel limbs adjacent to the turned over portion, and tinned up part formed at the point of the c portion to provide a lead for the hair to enter between the two portions of the pin; substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
THOMAS GEOFFREY WALL HENSLCW.
