ROI'E HITCH.
Application filed. August 5. 1926.
This invention relates to improvements in rope hitches.
It is one of the objects of the present in vention to provide a rope hitch especially designed to secure the end portions of clothes lines and the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a rope hitch which will wedgingly engage a rope to securely hold the same.
A further object of the invention is to pro vide a one-piece rope hitch wherein the mid wedging portion is stamped from the body portion.
A further object of the invention is to provide a rope hitch adapted for rigid attachment to a support and which is of very simple construction, is inexpensive to manufacture, is strong and durable, and is well adapted for the purposes described.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the improved rope hitch and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in which the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Fig.1 is a front view of the improved rope hitch;
Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view thereof; Fig. 3 is a side view of the device; and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing it will appear that the numeral 6 indicates a vertically disposed curved plate member adapted for attachment to a post or support 7 by means of screws 8 extending through apertures 9 therefor in the plate member.
The plate 6 is provided medially with a depending tongue 10 which is stamped from the mid-portion of the plate. Said tongue is curved as shown so that its rear face presents a convex surface, and the plane of the tongue is inclined with relation to the plate to form with the plate a wedge shaped opening.
, The plate 6 is further provided at its upper end portion with a pair of integral hooking portions 11. The inner portions of the members 11 are curved as shown in Fi 3 and engage portions of a rope 12, as shown in Fi 1.
Serial No. 127,333.
and is firmly engaged by the tongue 10. 1
Due to the fact that the tongue is stamped from the plate providing an opening 13, the curvature of the plate, and the convex surface of the tongue the wedging action is such that the rope is pressed by the mid-portion of the tongue and is also bound. between the side edges 14 of the tongue and the edges 15 of the plate opening 13. It is obvious that the end portion of a rope thus engaged will he firmly held against displacement and the rope may be led forwardly of the device at a great many different angles.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the improved rope hitch is of very simple and novel construction and is well adapted for the purpose set forth.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A rope hitch, comprising a curved plate portion, hooking portions extending therefrom, and a curved tongue portion stamped from a medial part of the plate portion and extending angularly therefrom.
2. A. rope hitch, comprising a plate portion, hooking portions extending therefrom. and a tongue portion having a convex inner surface extending angularly from the plate portion, there being an opening in the plate portion adjacent the tongue portion.
8. A rope hitch comprising a curved plate portion. hooking portions extending therefrom,'and a tongue portion extending medially from the plate portion and inclined with respect thereto, the inner surface of the tongue portion being convex.
4. In a rope hitch, a curved plate to form the body portion and provided with apertures to receive supporting means, a tongue stamped from the medial .portion of the plate and having an inclined relation to the plate, said tongue having a convex inner surface, there being an opening in the plate adjacent the tongue, the edge of said open ing being adapted to cooperate with the edges of the tongue to form clamping portions, and hooking portions extending from the plate.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signa ture.
CLAIR P. NOURSE.
