Description

OWEN A. GILL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAME-BOARDS.
Specicaton forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,820, dated March 16, 1875; application filed January 30, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OWEN A. GILL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Toy, of which the following is a specification In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a top view, and Fig. 2 a vertical central section on the lille c c, Fig. l, of my iinproved toy.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improved toy, by which a very entertaining and amusing game that combines chance and skill may be played.
The invention consists of a disk, which is balanced on a central bottom handle, and provided with indentations or cnp-shaped recesses and different obstructions for rendering the playing of a ball thrown from a revolving wheel into these holes more difficult and hazardous.
In the drawing, A represents a disk of wood, pasteboard, or other suitable material. The disk is provided with a handle, B, attached centrally to the under side of the same, for admitting the ready holding and balancing ofthe disk on playing with the toys. A rim, O, projects at the circumference to sufficient height to guard the ball that is played along the surface of the disk against escaping too easily therefrom. The face of the disk is arranged with a suitable number of cup-shaped recesses or indentations, a, into which the ball is to be played, the recesses being preferably marked with differentnumbers, accordin gto the greater or less difficulty encountered in bringing the ball into the same.
The ballmay be thrown directly on the disk when held in nearly horizontal position, or preferably thrown thereon from a perforated wheel, D, which revolves on a central pivotpin, b, of the handle at some distance above the disk, dropping the ball in the manner of the ball in roulette.
The motion of the ball on the surface is obstructed by vertical pins d, which are distributed in regular manner over the surface of the disk, so as to increase the difficulty ofv reaching the farther holes. A radial guard-bar, e, separates the eld, and increases the amuse- Lneillt created by the tortuous cour-se of the Other im pedin g and obstructingdevices may be used, if desired, to make the playing ofthe ball in the prize-holes more difficult and interesting, and increase the sport in the games that may be played with the toy. It may be played by one or more persons, forming an equally entertaining solitary as well as social amusement.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent U The combination of rimmed disk A O and handle B, rigidly attached, as shown, the former having recesses a, and the latter a perforated wheel, D, as and for the purpose specitied.
OXVEN A. GILL.
