IMPROVEMENT IN BRlDLE-BITS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,772, dated March 16, 1875; application filed March 2, 1875.
To all whom it may concern.:
' of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in
the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bridle-Bit Fastening, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a full, clear, and exact description.
The obiect of this invention is to furnish a neat and tasty bridle-bit, which shall be cheaply manufactured, readily attached and detached from a headstall or halter, always adjust itself to it, and at the same time save leather and labor in the manufacture of the headstall; and it consists in a snap cast onto a ring-shaped cheek-piece, and connected loosely with a detachable mouthpiece, so as to allow it to move freely thereon, and ena-ble it to always find its center, and to admit ot' using the snap with its opening inward or outward, as may be desired.

It will be seen that by making the cheekpiece b in the form of a ring, as shown in Fig. 3, it can turn freely on the mouth-piece, and enable the snap c to always ud its center, and to readily adjust itself'.
The snap is hitched onto the side of the headstall, thereby saving about eight inches ot leather, a buckle, and a box-loop on each side. The cheek-piece and snap being cast in one piece reduces the cost of manufacturing.
Having thus fully described my improvements, l claim- The combination 'of a cheek-piece and snaphook cast in one piece with adetachable mouthpiece.
