Description

H. L. FREYN ADJUSTABLE HANGER Filed Oct. 50I 1925 Nov' 16 1926 I 900 P il f .u u u u Y v r a l o J l t 0 f 1 Y. n u l o n l l I l n a UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY L. FREYN, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
ADJUSTABLE HANGER. i
Application led October 30, 1925.
The object of this invention is to provide means for attaching hangers to concrete ceilings, for supporting steam pipes and the like, in such manner as to afford a swinging adjustment of the hanger to conform with such lateral displacement of the pipes as frequently occurs.
The object, also, is to provide a simple de- -vice which will be easily made and applied.
l accomplish the above and other objects which will hereinafter appear, by the means illultrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. l is a view in side elevation of the holding device removed from the cement floor. Fig. 2 is an underside plan view of same, Fig. 3, is a vertical section of the device embedded in a cement floor, with the term still intact and Fig. e is a cross section on the line l-l ot Fig. 3 with the form removed and hanger installed.
Like characters of references indicate like parts in the several views of the drawing.
A cylindrical metal housing 5 has a clo ed dome-shaped upper end, and an open lower end terminating with an outside flange 6. This flange is preferably perforated for the passage of tacks 7, by which the housing is initially tacked, at the desired place, upon a board S, which comprises part o'l' a form upon which a concrete floor 9 is made.
The housing is provided with two, dianietrically opposite holes, through which a metal rod 10 passes remote from the open end of the housing and immediately below the dome.` Located in the housing 5 and through which the rod 10 passes, is a cou- Seral No. 65,717.
pling sleeve l1, formed out of the usual internally threaded coupling, by drilling the requisite diametrically opposite holes for the threading or" the coupling upon the rod. The rod extends far enough on each side of the housing to insure a strong anchorage in the concrete floor 9.
A threaded end of a hanger-rod l2 is screwed into the lower end of the Coupling ll in the manner shown in Fig. el, and the lower end of the rod 12 is suitably bent or formed to receive and hold a pipe 13, or other article to be suspended.
As is apparent from an inspection of Fig. 4l, the hanger may be swingingly adjusted 0n the rod 10 to suit'the position of the pipe in case the latter is at one side or the other of the vertical aXis of the housing 5. It is also apparent from Figs. 2 and 3, thatY the coupling has a limited adjustment longitudinally of the rod 10.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United IStates, is-
A housing embedded in a concrete body, said housing being cylindrical and having a closed dome-shaped upper end and an open lower end terminating with an outside flange, arod passing through the cylindrical walls remote from the open end and immediately below the dome of the housing and having ends projecting from each side of the body, a coupling in the housing ,swingingly supportedV on the rod and a hanger screwed into the coupling.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
