Description

Nov. 9 1926.
H. c. FISCHER CLOSURE OPERATING DEVICE Filed April 14, 1922 avg-.1.
ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Nov. 9, 1926.
HENRY C. FISCHER, OF MANNING, IOWA.
CLOSURE-OPERATING DEVICE.
Application filed April 14, 1922. Serial No. 552,548.
This invention relates to improvements in roof doors, the general object of the invention being to provide means for opening and closing the doors from the floor.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional view showingthe invention in use.
Figure 2 is a viewsimilar to Figure 1 showing the door 3 partly opened.
Figure 3 is a similar view showingthe position occupied by the door when the latter is fully opened.
In these views 1 indicates a portion of the roof of a building which is provided with openings 2, closed by the hinged doors 8. My invention relates to the opening and closing of such doors by a person standing on the floor and such means consists of a bracket of substantially V-shape and having one limb longer than the other, said limbs being bolted or otherwise fastened to the under face of the door, as shown at 5. An eye 6 is formed at the junction of the limbs and a rope or cable 7 has one end secured to this eye. This cable passes through a pulley 8 arranged adjacent the edge of the opening which is nearest the unhinged edge of the door and then this cable passes downwardly to a point where it may be reached by a person standing on the floor of the building. The short limb of the bracket is arranged adjacent the hinged edge of the door, and it will be seen that when the rope or cable is pulled upon the closed door will be swung upwardly beyond a vertical position and will thus drop upon the roof. \Vhenthe door is to be closed the rope is pulled upon again to swing the door upwardly and then the door will drop into closed position. Thus thedoor can be easily and quickly opened and closed by a person on the floor.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent. j
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
lVhat I claim is The combination with an overhead pivot ed trap door normally arranged horizontally, of a substantially V-shaped bracket terminally secured to said door and depending therefrom, said bracket including one straight leg, and a relatively long inclined leg, an eye member projecting from the apex of said bracket, a cable having one end se-' cured to said eye, and a guide pulley ar- 70 ranged above said eye and over which the cable is trained, whereby the door can be opened and closed by pulling on the free end of said cable. 1
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
HENRY C. FISCHER.
