SAFETY RAZOR.
Application filed January 30, 1926. Serial No. 84,895.
My invention relates to improvements in safety razors, and the object of the invention is to devise simple means in an auto-strop razor whereby the blade may be held in a rigid position in the razor during the operation of honing so that the blade may be honed without removal from the safety razor, and it consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Fig. 1 is a side view of a safety razor showing the blade in the position for honing.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged front elevation partially in section showing the blade locked for honing.
Fig. 3 is a similar view to Figure 2 showing the blade unlocked.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional detail of the operating parts of my device.
In the drawing like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in. each figure. 1 indicates a broad U-shaped member which forms abody of an auto-strop razor in which is journalled rollers 2 and 3, the roller 3 carrying the razor blade holder 4, 5
- being the blade inserted therein in the usual manner. V
6 is a movable plate forming the blade guard and which is movable to lock or unlock the blade in the shaving position or the position. indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. '1. V i
7 is the ordinary razor handle.
8. is an orifice extending longitudinally through the inner end ofthe handle.
9. is a slotted opening extending longitudiof forming the wall of the orifice 8. 1
10 is an orifice formed in the plate 6 which when the blade 5 is in the released positionis 'ily pass into ifin alignment with the inner end of the orice 8.
11 is an orifice formed in the base of the member 1 also in alignment with the orifice 8.
12 is a diametric orifice formed in the roller 2 and when the blade is in the honing position or position shown in Figure 4 is in direct alignment with the orifice 8, and 13 is a recess formed in the roller 3, and 14 is an orifice formed in the blade holder a.
15 is a'movable pin provided with a thumb piece 16 extending outward through the slot 9. The end of the pin 15 is preferably tapered as indicated at 17 so that it will readand engage with the orifices 12 and 1 and recess 13 when the pin 15is pushed outward by the operator when pressing his thumb upon the thumb piece. 16.
When the pin 15 is pushed outward so that it passes through the orifice 12 and enters the recess 13 it looks the blade 5 rigidly in position within the razor so that the operator by gripping the razor handle 7 may apply the blade 5 to the hone and hone it in the usual manner.
What I claim as my invention is: v
In a safety razor, the combination with the main member forming the body of the razor with the rollers journalled therein, the
' inner roller being provided with a diametric orifice and the outer rolleralso with an orifice, of a pin movably mounted within the razor blade handle, and manual means for moving the pin so that it will extend longitudinally' through the diametric orifice of the inner roller into the recess of the outer roller to hold the razor blade carried thereby in a honing position.
