Thisinvention relates to. dro closures of the kind, in which between tieclosure.
cap and the cover an -elastic intermediate pad is provided.
The purpose-of the present invention is on the one hand to relieve said elastic pad of excessive pressure when the cover is turned from opening into closing position or Vice versa and to protect said pad thereby against premature wear, and on the other hand to utilize the elasticity of said pad for securing the cover in its two end positions for opening or closing the outlet opening.
In the accompanying drawing, in which several forms of construction of my improved drop closure are illustrated by way of example- Fig. 1 shows a vertical section through the drop closure,
Fig. 2 shows a side view, partly in section of the same,
Figs. 3 and 4 show a modified form of the drop closure in vertical section and side view and Fig. 5 shows a stopper, formed as drop closure, partially in. side view and partially in section.
In the two forms of construction, illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4, the reference numerals 2, 7 indicate a tube shaped closure cap, which is placed on the bottle neck and which is covered towards the outside by the cover 8, 4 enclosing said closure cap. The elastic pad, provided between the cap 7 and the cover 4 is arranged within a recess of the cap 7 and is secured in position by the .pin 8. The opening 9 of this intermediate pad is flush with the bore 7 of the cap and can be turned into or out of juXta-position with the outlet opening of the cover in accordance with the opening or closing movement of the same. That part of the elastic pad, which projects over the cap recess, engages with the inner surface of the cover 4-, which latter is guided in its turning movements by means of two diametrically arranged pins 6 projecting into grooves 5' on both sides of the cap 2, 7 (Figs. 1 and 2).
This arrangement can be changed in such a manner, that, as may be seen in Fig. 3, the pins 6 are provided on the cap 7 and the guiding grooves 5 on the cover 4, so that the guiding mechanism can not be seen from the outside. Each of the guiding grooves 5 consists of two branches arranged angunnonrracrns, on, ran Linn.

larly with regard to eachother, one ofsaid branches extending vertically and being adapted to guide the pin 6 .into.thenearly ..herizontally.extendingv branch of the guide.
groove 5, which latter terminates in a notch 5.
The cover 3, 4 is provided at the lower edge of the side wall 3 with a turned over border 3 which is adapted to engage under the action of the elastic intermediate pad 9 with the set off edge of the cap 2, 7, after the cover has been placed over the said cap and after the pins 6 have been introduced into the vertical parts of the guide grooves 5. hen the pins 6 have entered the notches 5 of the grooves 5 the channels 7", 9 are out of juXta-position with the outlet opening 4-. of the cover and the latter is in closing position.
A. slight pressure on the cover against the push of the pad 9 is sufiicient to unlock the pins 6 from the notches 5 and to rotate the cover, until said pins enter into the vertically extending parts of the guide grooves, but are prevented from entirely leaving said grooves by the engagement of the turned edge 8 of the cover with the set off parts of the cap.
Among other advantages the described an rangement prevents premature wear of the elastic pad and also the liability of leakage, due to the fact, that the cover is held securely in either of the extreme positions.
In the modification, illustrated in Fig. 5. the drop closure is formed as a stopper, which is inserted into the bottle neck.
The cover 3, 4 can be provided with a roughened face 4 in order to facilitate the manipulation of the drop closure. Furthermore a seal closure can be attached to the cover and the lower part of the cap in the closing position of the drop closure in order to prevent an unauthorized opening movement of the same.
I claim:
1. A drop closure for bottles, receptacles or the like comprising in combination a closure cap adapted to be placed upon the neck of the bottle or the like, an elastic pad arranged in said cap, a rotatable cover mounted inseparably on said cap, concurring passages in said cap and said pad and an outlet opening in said cover, adapted to be brought into and out of juxtaposition with the before mentioned passages by the turning movement of said cover, and means provided on said cap and said cover and adapted to lock said cover as Well in opening; position as also in closing position.
2. A drop closure for bottles, receptacles or the like, comprising in combination a 010- sure cap adapted to be placed upon the neck of the bottle or the like, an elastic pad arranged in said cap, a rotatable cover mounted inseparably over said cap and pad and retained in position thereon by the engagement of the turned edge of the cover with a set off part or" the cap, concurring passages in said cap and said pad, and an outlet opening in said cover, adapted to be brought into and out of juxtaposition with the before mentioned passages by the turning movement of said cover, laterally projeeting pins on said cover and approximately horizontally extending grooves provided in said cap said grooves being adapted to guide said pins during the turning movement of said cover and notches at both ends of said grooves, adapted to lock said pins and therewith said cover as Well in opening as also in closing position.
In testimony whereof I afiix niy signalure.
