Description

F. A. SKINNER BRUSH Filed May 2o, 1926 Patented @et 19, 19265.
BRUSH.
Application filed May 20,
'lhis invention relates to brushes and more particularly to a device ot this character so constructed that it may be cheaply produced and will be durable and eilicient in service.
A further object or the invention is to provide a device oit this character wherein the bristle elements are removable, so that they may be very readily cleansed.
A further object ot the invention is to provide a construction enabling the use oi a spiral bristle clump in a brush oit this ch aracter.
These and other objects l attain by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein for the purpose oit .illustration is shown a preferred embodiment ot my invention and wherein :-d
Figurc 1 is a plan view ot a brush constructed in accorda icc with my invention;
Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof;
Figure 8 is a transverse sectional view therethrough 5 Figure l is a section on the line /1-4 ot Figure 2;
Figure 5 is a )lan view ot the bristle receiving tace of t e back.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the brush includes a back 10, the bristle receiving face of which is termed with longitudinally extending concave grooves 11 having their adjacent edges spaced. The ends of the back 10 at the centers thereof ati a point intermediate the grooves 11 have formed therein sockets 12 and the bristle receiving tace ot the brush is notched to form coves 13 extending 'from the sockets 12 to the bristle receiving wall. rlhe bristle elements are formed by employing two wires '14 and 15 or a single wire bent medially between which are inserted bristles 16 aitter which the wire core is twisted to provide a spirally arranged bristle clump ot circular formation.
The bristle clump terminates at points spaced Yfrom the ends et the wires and these ends are reverted in spaced relation te the clumps to provide inwardly directed terminals 17 for engagement in the sockets 12 and 1926. Serial No. 110,555.
connecting portions 18 which will engage in the covcs 13 and prevent movement ot the bristle clumps by maintaining them lirmly in engagement in the grooves 11. yllhc wire employed is resilient and the ends or' the inwardly directed portions 1"? are spaced apart a distance less than the distance between adjacent ends et the coves 13, so that the terminal portions 17 may not escape from the sockets 12 which are of even greater depth than the coves.
By this structure, a brush having very rigid bristles can be produced and the bristle clumps may be readily removed at any time tor cleansing. rlhe brush clumps may be reversed as to the grooves which they occupy and in so doing they are longitudinally reversed, with the result that the sides et the clumps which were originally in engagement with one another are arranged at the outside cl the brush, providing a fresh surface at this/point.
Since the construction hereinbetorc set forth is obviously capable ot a certain range ot change and inodilication without materially departing from the spirit ot the invention, l do not limit myself to such specific structure except as hereinafter claimed.
1 claim In a brush, a back having spaced longitudinally extending grooves formed in its bristle receiving tace, the ends oit the back having sockets and bristle holders each having a twisted metallic core arranged within said grooves, the ends o1 the metallic cores of said holders being provided with reverts for engagement in the sockets, said sockets being disposed at the centers oi' the ends ot the back andeach receiving the corresponding reverts ol the cores ot said bristle holders, the end wall et the back having notches connecting said sockets with the bristle receiving tace of the back and adapted to receive the connection between the reverts ot the cores and the body thereof.
In testimony whereof 1 hereunto atlix my signature.
FERN A. SKINNER.
