My invention relates,particularly, to auxiliary jaws readily applicable to the jaws or pipe wrenches for converting thelatter into square head wrenches, but in general, my invention relates to auxiliary jaws adapted to protect andprevent excessive wear on the Fig. 5 is a central vertical longitudinal section of Fig. 3, showing a modified form of a Working face. p

The wrench illustrated in Figures land 2, is the well known Stillson wrench and will require no specific description.
Referring to Fig. 3 which shows the upper auxiliary jaw member, it will be seen that the latter consists essentially'of a channel section having side walls 10 adapted to register with the side faces of the upper jaw of the wrench. These side walls are spaced from each other so as to fit closely against the side faces of the wrench head, as shown,
particularly, in Fig. 2. The inner bottom surface 11 of the channel member is pro vided with serrations 12 adapted to engage, upon applying the auxiliary jaw member, with similar serrations upon the orking face of the wrench head. A leaf spring 13 is set in a groove 14: in the outer surface of one'of thewalls, 10 and is secured thereon 'near its lower end by means of a rivet 15.

In the embodiment of my invention, illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4, the-working faces of the channel members areplane surfaces, so
that the wrench is converted into a square head wrench. For handling'nickel pipe,
however, I :prefer to give the working face the arcuate configuration, shown in Figs. 5 and6.
From-the above itwill be seen that I have provided auxiliary jaws of an extremely practical nature, due" to their simplicity of structure and ease of attachment and re moval, and while I have described a par ticular embodiment of my invention, it isto be understood that, I do not limit myself as to structure except as determined in the following claims.-
"I'claim:
1; In combination with a wrench having jaws with serrated gripping surfaces, auxadapted to slip over said jaws, said channel adapted toengage with said serrated gripping surfaces, the side walls of saidchannel members being spaced to fit closely the side faces of said jaws, and'a leaf spring on a 'sidewall ofea'ch of said jaws and having a hook portionextending inwardly beyond the side wall, saidh ook portions being r-etractile for permitting theapplication of the auxiliary :jaws by movements directly toward their respective jaw faces.
