Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIoa SMITH H. PHINNEY, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO WILLIAM S. ROWE, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,278, dated March 2, 1875 application filed December 2, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SMITH H. PHINNEY, of Rochester, in the county of Monroeand State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the righthand bracket and the lever. Fig. 2 is a reverse or inner side elevation of the same, the ratchet of the spool being shown in dotted lines.. Fig. 3 is a section of the pivotal point of the lever on the dotted line as, Fig. 2.
The object of this invention is to provide the lever of curtain-fixtures with a loose selflocking axial joint, and a fixed pivot to swing upon. It consists, mainly, in so forming the bracket and lever that they may be detachably united, and at the same time possess all the advantages of a riveted joint for firinness, &c.
The lever A I construct as shown in the drawing, the pivotal point being provided with two locking-lips, c, which are offset, as shown in Fig. 3, and projecting laterally on each side from the axial opening e, which receives the pivot 2'. (Shown in Fig. 2.) Segmental openings at, Figs. 1 and 2, are provided through the web portion of the bracket B, for the ofiset-lips to work through. Said lips 0 have a bearing upon a surface countersunk below the general outer face of the bracket.
In applying my invention, I prefer a counter-weighted lever, though it is applicable to other styles of pendulum-fixtures.
In forming the counter-weight O, I provide it with a shield or guard, g, to cover the outer edge of the ratchet portion of the spool.
It has been found that when the levers were made without the axial pivot, the pawl portion was allowed too much lateral movement, and consequently was very liable to trip or fail to catch the ratchet-teeth. This liability is entirely obviated by the employment of the pivot 13.
What I claim as my invention is- A curtain-fixture having its pawl-lever A detachably connected to the bracket B by means of an offset-lip, c, projecting on opposite sides of the axial center of said lever, and playing in the slots at in the bracket, and a centering-pivot, i, substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
S. H. PHINNEY.
