Description

Oct- 12 1926.
' J. D. MULLOWNEY ADVERTI S ING DI SPLAY Filed April a, 1923 2 Sheets-Sheet l EQ i adapted Patented Oct. 12, 1926.
JOSEPH D. MULLOWNEY, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
ADVERTISING DISPLAY.
Application filed April 6,
My invention provides a simple, inexpensive and highly eflicient means for displaying and advertising canned goods and other goods put up in parcels and having labels applied thereto, and, generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices, arrangement and combinations of parts here inafter described and defined in the claim.
The display of a large quantity of any particular line of goods in a store window or on the shelves within the store isnot only a very effective way of attracting attention to the particular line of goods, but impresses purchasers with the fact that the goods are well worth carrying in large quantities. It is not generally desirable to carry an extremely large quantity of any particular line of goods, or even if they are carried in stock .by any particular concern, it is not desirable to place a large number of parcels where the labels will be exposed to dirt, dust, and the fading action of the sun.
My invention provides simple means whereby there may be given the general im pression of a large stock or quantity of goods even where but a small number of the parcels are actually exposed to the view of the purchaser. Especially, this scheme is for use in store windows, but it may also be applied in connection with shelves within the store. The scheme involves the use of an advertising display ribbon made of paper and consisting of a long roll of ribbon of integrally con-- nected labels that are duplicates of the labels on the cans or parcels containing the goods being advertised. This advertising ribbon is applied as a border around a window' pane or as a border around shelves, in which or on which more or less of the actual cans or parcels are displayed.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective looking at the front of a store window and illustrating the invention herein disclosed Fig. 2 is a fragmentary horizontal section taken approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
1923. Serial No. 630,240.
Fig. 3 is a perspective showing a roll of the advertisingborder-forming ribbon; and i constitutes no part of the present invention.
The numeral 8 indicates canned goods or parcels assembled 1n the store adjacent the window, where they may be viewed through the window from the exterior thereof, and
which cans may be piled or placed on racks or supported in any suitable way.
The bordentorming ribbon 9 is preferably of paper and is made up of a multiplicity of duplicate labels 9" representing the actual labels on the canned goods. On the ribbon shown in Fig. 3, the labels, are printed crosswise of the ribbon, but the labels in some instances, will be printed lengthwise of the ribbon, so that they will be better adapted for application to the top and bob tom of the window pane. The ribbon with the labels printed crosswise thereof is best adapted for application to the vertical sides of the window pane. These ribbons may be quickly attached to a window pane or the like by the use of a little mucilage or by the use of stickers, and when applied as shown in Fig. 1, they form a window border or frame that is bound to attract much attention and will give the general appearance of a large supply of the goods advertised.
The costof the advertising ribbon is very small and, hence, may at very small cost be frequently changed so as to adverti'sedit ferent kinds of goods.
What I claim is: I Y
A window display comprising a display ribbon made up of a multiplicity of advertising labels connected in series and applied as a border on and secured to the window pane anl readable therethrough, and parcels of the goods advertised displayed through the window border and having labels that correspond to the labels of said border.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOSEPH D. MULLOWNEY.
