Patented Urt. l2, 1926.
UNITED STATES y BERT B. YEOMANS, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
STOVE OR RANGE.
Application filed November 28, 1924.
The present invention relates to stoves or ranges and more particularly to the type in which the stove or range has arranged at its rear a horizontal box flue through which the fumes, odors or products oi combustion from the range or stove pass in their travel to the chimney. An object ot this invention is to provide a construction which will permit the box flue to be utilized tor discharging the fumes, odors or products oi combustion through the top of the box flue or through the bottom without the requirement ot any material amount of work on the part of the workmen in installing the range or stove.
To these and other ends, the invention consists oi certain parts and. combinations ot parts, all of which will be hereinafter described: the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view ot a gas range constructed inaccordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical. section through the box flue showing the outlet flue extending -from the top of the 'box flue; and
Fig. 3 is a similar view showingy the outlet 'tine connected to the bottom of the box flue.
The invention is herein illustrated as einbodied in a gas range 1 having a box flue Q. at the rear*communicating with the oven through the rear wall 3. by a. passageway or opening` li. This box iiue has a top plate 5 in. a plane with the top of the range and this top plate is provided with an opening 6 and with an annular depression or countersunlr portion 7. The bottom wall oi the box flue has an opening` 8, the diameter of which is preferably the same as the diameter oi" theopening G. For use with either of the two openings 6 andS, there is provided a cover member El with a central projecting portion 10, the diameter et which is slightly sn'ialler than the diameter ot the openings 6 and`8. This cover may be .[itted either to the bottoni ot the flue as shown in Fig. 2 or the top of the box flue as shown in Fig. 3, bolts 11 being employed with the cover and bolt openings being providixl in the flue about the openings G and 8. Vhen the cover is titted to the top of the flue, it lies in the annular' depressed portion 7 with its outer surface ilush with the top surf-.ice of the flue.
There is also provided for use with either of the openings 6 and 8 a flue adapted in the Serial No. 752,498,
form of a plate 12 with an annular flange 13 projecting from one side and an annular flange 14 projecting from the opposite side. The annular flange 14 has a diameter suiticient to tit in either one of the openings 6 and 8 and the annular flange 14 has a diameter of a size to tit within the standard out let flue 15. Bolts 16 may be employed for ysecuring the flue adapter either to the top conducting the fumes or products of combus-4 tion downwardly as shown in Fig. 3, while the opening in the bottom is closed as shown by the cover member 9.
This invention makes it possible for a stove and range dealer to reduce the amount of stock which he would otherwise be required to carry, as every stove or range equipped with this invention can be utilized for conducting the fumes, odors or products of combustion either upwardly or downwardly depending upon the best manner of disposing ofsaid fumes, odors, or products of combustion.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a box lue arranged in the rear ot a range or stove and provided with an opening in its top and its bottom wall; of a cover plate and a flue collar each of' which has provision for connecting it to the said box tlue and either of said openings.
2. The combination with a box flue arranged at thek rear ot a range or stove and provided with an opening in its top and bottom wall, the top wall having a depression about the openingl therein, and bolt openings being provided in both the top and the bottom wall about the iirstmentioned openings therein, of a cover plate having a portion adapted to project into one of said openings, a flue collar having a portion projecting into the other of said openings, and bolts passing through the flue collar and cover plate to secure them to opposite walls ot the box flue.
