To all whom t may concern: i n
Be it known that I, CHARLES S, KINNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paso Robles, iny the county `of San Luis Obispo and State of California, have invented ycertain'newy and useful Improvements in Stoves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description'of the' invention,y such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. y
My invention relates to improvements in stoves and more particularly to those known as air tight heaters, commonly used in country and suburban districts for burning comparatively large chunks of wood.
The object of the invention is to provide a stove of the class described having a detachable top andk an ash pan which is removable from theupper end' of the stove when said top is detached, they wall of said pan serving as the lining of the'sheet metal casing.
With the foregoing general obj ect in view, the invention resides in certainr novel features of construction and unique combinations of parts to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in whichz Figure 1 isa central vertical sectional view of the improved stove; and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the top and the parts carried thereby partly removed. c
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a vertically disposed casing which is preferably 'but not necessarily of cylindrical shape, said casing having a 'permanent bottom` 2 and a detachable top 3, the latter having a depending annular flange 4 which snugly sur- `VVAIV`llwhose wall 12 is of such height as to serve as a lining for the stove, such vwall having a pair of hooks or the like 13 for coperation with other hooks 14 on a bail 15 by means of which the ash pan may be lifted from the stove after the top 3 has been re-l moved, the latter having a pair ofA eyes 16 rwhereby the bail 15 may be employed Vfor removing said top.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be obvious that although the improved stove is of simple and inexpensive construction, it will be highly eiiicient and durable, particular emphasis being laid upon the fact that exceptionally large chunks of wood may be placed in the stove by removing the entire top 3, and upon the detachable ash pan 12. The latter serves not only as a convenient means of removing the ashes, but the wall of said pan acts as a lining for the Vstove which may be easily replaced when burnt out. f When removing the pan to dump the ashes, the top 3 with its fuel inlet 6 and the draft inlet pipe 7 are bodilyl removed and an external bead 7a on this pipe then rests on said top as seen in Fig. 1, to prevent said pipe from possibly slipping through the collar 8. Y On account of the several advantages owing from the construction shown and described, such construction constitutes the preferred form of the improved stove, but I wish it understood that within the scope of the invention as claimed, numerous minor changes may well be made without sacriicing thel principal advantages.
I claim:
In an airtight stove, a sheet metal casing height, a smoke outletr in said casing near its upper end, a removable sheet metal lining for said wall -to shield the same against i'ire, the upper end of said lining being disposed immediately below said smoke outlet, a bottom secured to the lower end of said lining and forming therewith a fire and ash pan removable for emptying the ashes, said bottom resting throughout its area on the casing bottom, a removable cover for said casing having a fuel inlet and an opening spaced from said inlet, a one-piece vertical sheet-,metal draft inlet pipe slidable through said opening to permit raising of said pipe as the ashes accumulate, and zt damper on the outer end of said pipe, the lower end of the latter being beveled in one direction to permit the entrance of air, even though the lower extremity of said pi-pe may rest on or extend into the ashes, said cover with its fuel inlet and said draft inlet pipe being removable bodily and said pipe having am external bead to rest on said cover and prevent said pipe from falling through 10 the opening through which Ait extends.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto Set niy hand in the presence Vof two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES STEPHEN KINNEY.
