The main object of this invention is to provide :aipicture frame in the form of two modifications, both having a novel characteristic of four sides or framing members which are adapted to be mutually interlocked and releasable from each other in a readymanner so that the sides may be folded into a compact bundle and packed and shipped.

The above and-other objects willbecorne apparent in thedescri-ption' below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawing.

Referring briefly to the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the picture frame.

Figure 2 is a top plan view of the picture frame, showing the side framing -members removed, illustrating the construction resorted to for interlocking the framing members at the corners.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numerals 10 and 11 indicate the long side framing members of the picture frame. These framing members are composed of a flat piece of material and have their end edges mitred and are folded into inclined converging sides 13 Whose mutually adjacent edges are joined by a plate 14 upon which the picture to be framed is pasted or otherwise secured. Near each end of the long side framing members, cut-out portions 15 are provided and have the edges of the cut-out portions parallel to each other on the flat face 16 of the side framing members,,as illustrated. The cut--out portions have diverging edges 17 formed on the inclined converging sides 13 of the long side framing members and into these cut-out portions, a semi-circular area 18 projects, as illustrated in Figure 2. The short side framing members 19 are also provided with inclined converging sides 20 near whose ends,

The modified type ofjpictureframe shown in l ig-ures 5,6, and 7, is 'of somewhat different outline, having convergently inclined sides, making a pyramidal shape of frame member and comprises'rtwo long sides '24 and .25 whose adjacentedges are joined :by a flexible piece of fabricmaterialfifiwhich serves as the baseboard upon which the pictures are framed. Near the corners of the long side framing members, triangular aligned cut-out portions '26 are provided on, :both of the sides 27 of each of the side framing members, the cut-out portions having their vertices meeting and joining at the point where the material forming the side-framing members is ben-t to provide the converging Walls 27. The short side :fram-ing members illustrated in Figure 7, compriselongitudinal members of material :havingconvergent sides 28 and whose outer edges :29-are provided with cut-out portions 30 whose sides 31 are convergent l y inclined.

These picture frames are of atype which may be readily dismantled for packing and shippingso that the least amount of space or volume is taken-up when notinuse. In the preferred type of picture frame, illustrated in Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4, the outline of the 7 side framing members necessitates a cut-out portion at each corner on the convergently inclined sides 13, as shown in Figure 2. That portion of the cut-out part 15 which crosses the flat portion 16 of the long sides 10 and 11 is'square in area and the remainder of the cut-out parts have inclined bounding edges and a semi-circular part 18.

Into these cut-out portions, the side framing members 19 of the semi-circularoutline as the long side framing members are inserted. The

20 and 13 of all of these framing members may be readily bent to facilitate interlocking of the sides. By bending the sides 20 of the short side framing members toward each other and inserting these side walls 20 int-o the square portion of the cut-out arts'15, initial interlocking takes place. Ey depressing the short sides 19 down upon the long side framing members, the bottom 23 of the cut-out parts 21 on the short side framing members seat upon the semi-circular edges, 18 partly bounding the cut-out portions 15 and are spread outwardly as they ride upon the curved edge of these semi-circular portions 18, thus spreading the sides 20 apart into their normal inclined position shown in Figure 1.

In the modified form of picture frame, the same procedure in locking the short side framing members to the long side framing members is followed, that is, the member shown in Figure 7 is flattened so tl at both of the inclined sides 28 lie parallel and adjacent to each other and the long side framing members are then pulled apart until the flexible base 26 presents a straight or flat outline. The cut-out portions 30 of the short side framing members are then inserted into the triangular cut-out portions 26 of the long side framing members and the sides 28 of the short side framing members are then.

I claim 1. A picture frame comprising apair of parallel longitudinal strips joined by a base, the strips being bent at one or more places intermediate their Width, cut-out portions on the bent sides of the strips joining at the bend, and additional bent strips adapted to form the sides of the picture frame and interlock in the cut-out portions.

2. A picture frzme compi sing a pair of parallel longitudinal strips joined by a base, the strips being bent at one or more places intermediate their Width, cut-out portions on the bent sides of the strips joining at the bend, additional bent strips adapted to form the sides of the picture frame and interlock in the cut-out portions, said additional strips having cut-out portions formed on the outer edges thereof, the cut-out portions of the ad ditional strips being adapted to insert into cut-out portions of the joined strips and in; terlock to form a picture frame.

3. A picture frame comprising a pair of parallel longitudinal strips, a base, said strips being unitary with said base and extending along the long sides thereof, the strips being bent lengthwise at one or more places intermediate their Width, cut-out portions formed in the strips at the corners of said base, said cut-out portions passing across the bent portions of said st ips, and additional strips having the same number of bends as on the first-named strips adapted to form removable sides for the picture frame and further adapted to interlock by being engaged in the cut-out portions.

4. A picture frame comprising a pa r of iarallel longitudinalstrips joined by a base,

the strips being bent at one or more places intermediate their Width, cu -out portions on the bent sides of the strips joining at the bend, additional bent strips adapted to form the sides of the picture frame and interlock in the cut-out portions, said additional strips having cut-out portions forming on the outer edges thereof, the cut-out portions of the additional strips being adapted to insert into cut-out portions of the joined strips and interlock to form a picture frame, said cut-out portions of the joined strips having a semicircular edge adapted to serve as spreader surfaces for spreading the sides of the additional strips apart.
