COMBINATION BOOKHOLDEB AND TABLE.

This invention is a combined book holder and table for the use of invalids, and this application is a new application covering the same invention as originally described and claimed in the application filed in the United States Patent Office January 20, 1922, under Serial Number 530,509, and allowed May 11, 1922. The object is to provide a simple and practical adjustable article of this kind.

The invention consists of a table board 1, having a base strip 2 hinged at 3 along the back edge. Another book holding strip 4, having an angular recess 5 out along its upper and forward corner, is hinged at 6 to the base strip 2 so that the book strip will fold and lock in upright position upon the base strip, the angular recess 5 fitting over the corner of the base strip. A slotted bar 7, slotted at 8 and having inset ends 9 is secured by screws 10 through these ends to a side edge of the table board 1. An adjusting brace 11 has one end pivoted at 12 to the book strip 4, and the opposite end lock ingly engages the slot 8 through the medium of a thumb screw 13. An ordinary extensible arm 14 is secured at one end to the table board 1 by means of the bracket rod 15, the latter being screwed at 16 to the under side of the board. The opposite end of the arm 14 is similarly secured to the bed 17 by means of the rod 18, attached by bolts or screws 19. An adjustablesupporting leg 20 is hinged at 21 to the under side of the table board 1, and thus adapted to fold up out of the way when not in use. This'leg 20 has a slot 22 in which is slidingly mounted an extension 23 carrying the foot A thumb screw clamp 25 enables the locking of the extension 23 at any desired point. .A recess 26 is cut in the under side of, the board 1 to receive the thumb screw 25 when the leg 20 is folded up. The operation and use of the device is obvious.

YVhfle I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assemderstood that same may be varied in minor detalls, not departing from the spirit of my invention as defined 1n the appended claims.

I claim A book holder and table for beds, comprising a table board; a base strip hinged to the back edge thereof; a book holding strip hinged in turn to the base strip; a slotted bar secured to a side edge of the table board; an adjusting brace pivoted to the book strip at one end while the opposite end releasably engagesthe said slotted bar; an extensible arm secured at one end to the table board, the opposite end being adapted for securing to a bedstead; and an adjustable supporting leg mounted under the table board.
