KEY RING.-
Application filed December 16, 1924. Serial No. 756,264;
This invention relates to improvements in key rings and has for its principal object to provide one which can be easily opened and locked securely. 3
lViththe key rings now universally in use, considerable time and labor is necessitated in opening the key ring so that keys may be removed therefrom or placed thereon.
One of the important objects of the pres ent invention is to provide a key ring which will overcome the above disadvantages, the same being simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages of th1s 1nvention will become apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same Figure 1 is a side elevation of the key ring embodying my invention showing the same in a closed position.
Figure 2 is a similar view illustratingth key ring in an open position.
Figure 3 is an end elevation, and
Figure 4 is a top plan view.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved key ring, the same being preferably formed of'spring steel. The key ring is substantially of triangular configuration, the side arms thereof having their'upper ends arranged in parallel spaced relation as illustrated at 2 and 3 respectively. The upper ends of the arms 2 and 3' are bifurcated. A locking bar 4 which is formed of the same material as the remaining portion of the key ring has one end thereof reduced as illustrated at 5, the same being flattened and pivotally supported in the bifurcated portion of the upper end of the arm 2 as illustrated at 6.
The opposite end of the locking bar 4; is also reduced and flattened as illustrated at. 7 and a head such as is shown at 8 is formed on the outer free end of the flattened portion 7 The flattened portion 7 of the lock ing bar 4: is adapted to be received in the bifurcated upper end of the arm 3 when the key ring is to be closed. A notch 9 is formed in the outer side of the upper portion of the arm 3 and the purpose thereof is to pro-- vide a means for cooperation with the head 8 when the bar is in its locked position, thus preventing the accidental displacement of the flattened portion 7 of the bar 4 from engagement with the bifurcated upper portion of the arm 3.
When in the position as shown in Figure ring will not accidentally be disengaged therefrom and the keys may be readily moved around the side arms and base of the substantiallytriangular shaped key ring in PATENT OFFICE.
. 1 of the drawing, the keys placed on the key 1 l order that the desired'key may be readily grasped. hen it is necessary to remove a key from the ring or place one thereon, inward pressure is exerted on the upper portion of the arm so that the upperportion of the arm 3 will move inwardly from the head 8, it being understood of course that the flat,- tened portion 7 is of such length as to accommodate the sliding movement of the upper portion of the arm 3. The head Swill then i be disengaged from the notch 9and the locking bar 4L may then be swung upwardly to the position shown in Figure 2, thus en abling the keys on the ring to be removed therefrom by sliding the same off of either of the arms and also permit additional keys l to be placed on the ring.
A key ring of the above mentioned character, will save considerable time and labor in opening the same and furthermore when in a closed position, there will be no possibility of the same becoming accidentally open, thus preventing the loss of the keys I carried on the ring. 7
VVhile I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is: I v
A key ring comprlsing .a key holding mem ber including parallel spaced free arms,-a
bar pivotally supported at one end on the upper end of one of said arms, the upper end of the other arm being bifurcated, and provided with a notch in the outer side thereof, the free end of the bar being reduced and flattened, said flattened portion being adapted to fit in the bifurcated upper end of the last mentioned arm, a head formed on the free'end of the bar and adapted for interlooking engagement with the notch formed in the outer side of the bifurcated arm whereby the bar is locked against swinging movement to provide a closure for the spaced parallel arms, the flattened end of the bar being of such length as to permit the sliding movement of the bifurcated arm thereon ,ment of the bar.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
