Description

I v. BUCHANAN consm Filed Oct.
Patented Sept. 14, 1926.
VI'JlJA BUCHANAN, or NEW Yonx, N. Y.
CORSET.
Application filed'October 10, 1921. Serial No. 506,632.
My invention relates to improvementsin corsets, and the samehas for its object to provide a corset which will fit perfectly, be comfortable to the .wearer, and which will permit of the same being conformed fully to the figure of the wearer.
Further, said invention has for its objec to provide a corset which may be readily adjusted to the figure, and be conformed at its lower rear edges closely to the buttocks of the wearer. r I 7 Further, said invention has for its object to provide a corset having separate seat portions which may be "severally conformed closely to the buttocks of the wearer so as to leave no ridge or line at the lower edge of the corset which will be visible through the skirt or garment worn over the same.
Further, said invention has for its object to provide a corset having a seat portion formed of one or more elastic inserts, adapted to be conformed closelyto the buttocks of the wearer by holding means and attach- I ing members slidably arranged upon said holding means.
Other objects will inpart be obvious and in part be pointed out hereinafter. i To the attainment of the aforesaid objects and ends, my invention consists inthe novel details of. construction, and in the combination. connection and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and then pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanving drawings- Figure 1 is an illustrative view showing one form of corset constructed according to,
and embodving my said invention in posi-..
tion upon the wearer:
Fig. 2 is an outside" view of the spread out; and w Fig. 3 is a partial back view showing a modified construction in order to adapt the invention to a corset, formed in two halves or parts which is open at both front and back, and the two parts united by lacing.
\ In said drawings, referring to Figs. 1 and 2, 1O designates acprset which for the purpose ofillustrating my invention is herein shown as of the frontflace type, that is to say, the back is closed, and. the body portion of the corset formed as a unit and secured together along its open front or meet ing edges by a suitable lacing 11. and by eyes and hooks 12 and 13,. and studs and loops 14, 15. The studs and loops 14,15 being corset at their upper ends with a slotted portionsecured to a separate member 16 which also receive the lacing 11.-
The body portion of the corset is preferably made of inelastic fabric and is provided at its sides with vertical casings 17 and near the center of the back with apair of casings front of one of the meeting edges of the corset. The said casings 17 18,19 are adapted to receive the usual stays.
The lower rear portion of the corset body, which constitutes essentially the seat "port on of the garment, is cut away adjacent to the edge thereof intermediate the casings 18, and in place thereof an elastic insert 20 is secured. The opposite vertical edges of the insert 18. 19 denotes a casing arranged along the 20 are secured'to the corset along the inner ly extending elastic members or straps 21, to the ends of which aresecured the upper ends of the holding members 22, preferably made of inelastic material in the form of loops which have their other ends secured to the sides of the corset at the thereof directly below the point where the side casings 17 terminate. l
. 23 denotes attaching members adapted for securement to the upper edge of the stocking of the wearer at the outer side ofeach leg. The said attaching members 23 are provided 2 1 through which extend the looped holding members 22 in order to permit of the movement of said attaching members 23 upon said holding members. The holding members 22 maybe provide-d lower edges extended to form downwardly and outwardwith adjustingclasps or buckles 25 whereby the length of said holding members 22 may be adjusted to suit the requirements of the wearer.
' Thebody port-ion of the corset is provided at its front edges directly below the casings 16, 19 with stocking supporters 26, 26
adapted to engage the edge of the stocking at the inner side of the legs oflthe wearer.
\and supporters 27, 27* arranged at the front of the corset adjacent to the stocking supporters 26, 26 adapted to engage the upper .by laces 12.
edge of the stocking at the front side of each leg.
In the modification illustrated at Fig. 3, the invention is essentially the same as that described in connection with Figs. 1 and 2, except that in the construction shown at Fig.
3 the corset is shown as formed in two partsterminate inelastic straps or members 21 which are secured to the holding members 22 in the same manner as described in connection w1th the mam construction shown at Figs. 1 and 2. v
members extending therefrom. I
that by arrang-' The operation of the corset will be obvious from the foregoing description. It is merely necessary to note that by reason of the fact that the elastic inserts or seat portions being more yielding in vertical and diagonal directions than in horizontal or transverse directions, the instant the ,same
and the straps or members are placed un-,.
der tension by the holding members and the attaching members thereon, the entire insertwhether composed of a single, member, as shown at Figs. 1 and 2, or as two members 20 as shown at Fig. 3, will be snugly conformed to the buttocks of th'e wearer and give a perfect finish to the lower edge of the corset.
the holding members 22 in the form of loops and-rigidly attaching one end thereof to the elastic insert and the other end thereof to an inelastic portion of the corsetand slidably disposing the attaching members 23 upon said looped holding members, any strain to which the holding members 22 may be subjected'will be instantly communicated to the elastic seat portion and the; elastic Further, it is to be noted mg the attaching'jmembers 23 slidably upon the holding members 22, a greaterlatitude 1s afforded for fastening the securing members 23 to the upper edge of the stocking of the wearer.
Having thus described" my "said invention what I claim and desire to secureby Let- 'ters Patent is:
