IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,94 2, dated February 16, 1875; application filed January 4, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN 0. LOVE. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented Improvements in Lamps and Lamp-Holders for Chandeliers, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to chandeliers and brackets for carrying oil-lamps and the object of my invention is to insure the more accurate fitting of the lamp to the holder than in ordinary chandeliers of this class, and also to afford a receptacle for receiving the oil which may escape from the lamp. These objects I attain in the manner which I will now proceed to describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which represents the lamp detached from the holder, the latter as well as the lamp-base being shown in section. 7
A represents part of one of the arms of a chandelier or of a bracket secured to the wall, and to the outer end of this arm is secured the cup-shaped holder B with flaring sides. This holder is shown in the drawing as made of solid metal; but it may have openings of any design which the taste of the constructor may suggest, or it may be of sheet metal spun to the desired shape.
The fountain D of the lamp is secured to the cup-like base H, the exterior of which is made to conform to and fit accurately Within the holder.
In chandeliers for lamps it is usual to place a glass fountain directly in the holder, and as the fountains can rarely, if ever, be made true, their accurate and steady littin g in the holders cannot be secured.
The metal base H, however, can be made to fit accurately to the holder. At the same time it affords a receptacle for catching such drippings of oil as may escape during the replenishing of the lamp.
I claim as my invention The combination of the cup-shaped metal base H of the lamp, with a metal holder, B, of a form adapted to the said base and carried by the arm of a chandelier or bracket,
all as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN 0. LOVE. Witnesses:
HARRY SMITH, HUBERT HoWsoN.
