FHOTO-LITHOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON. D'C- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTHONY ROELOFS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
LAMP-SUPPORTING BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,048, dated January 25, 1881.
Application filed October 11, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
- citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Lamp-Supporting Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in the lamp-holdin g bracket for which Letters Patent No. 232,761 were granted to me September 28,1880; and the object of my present invention is the economical manufacture of the bracket by casting in' one piece therewith the holder of the lamp reservoir or fountain.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of sufficient of a lamp-holding bracket to illustrate my invention; Fig. 2, a plan view of the bracket; and Fig. 3, a sectional plan, drawn to a reduced scale, of that part of the lamp-fountain which fits the holder.
The bracket A, the outer portion only of which is shown in the drawings, may be hinged to the wall through the medium of a wall-plate, in the manner described in the aforesaid patent, or in .any other manner which may be deemed advisable. Two arms, a a, project from the upturned end of the bracket and are cast in the same piece therewith, each arm having a vertical projection, 11, adapted to a groove in the cylindrical base of the lampreservoir, which is shown by dotted lines in Fig. l, the two grooves in the base being shown in the sectional plan view, Fig. 3.
(No model.)
in my said patent the lamp-holder consisted ofa spider having four arms with upturned ends-an arrangement which involved the necessity of making the spider a separate casting from the bracket and attaching it to a threaded projection on the latter.
By using two arms, a a, and arranging them in line, or thereabout, with the body of the bracket, as shown in Fig. 2, the holder and bracket may be cast in one piece, thereby lessening the cost of production. At the same timethe upturned ends ofthe arms a (1, adapted to the two grooves in the reservoir, steadily retain the latter.
1 claim as my invention- The combination of the bracket A, having two arms, a, a, arranged in line, or thereabout, with the body of the bracket, cast in one piece therewith, and having upturned ends I) b, with a lamp reservoir having opposite grooves, adapted for the reception of said upturned ends of the arms, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANTHONY ROELOFS.
