IMPROVEMENT lN LAP-TABLES FOR MILLINERS, &c.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,910, dated February 16, 1875 application filed October 21, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES DUNCAN, of Buchanan, in the county of Berrien and State of Michigan, have invented an Improved Lap- Table for Milliners and Dress-Makers, of which the following is a specification:

The nature of this invention relates to the peculiar construction of a lap table, which can be adjusted as to height, and when not in use can be folded up compactly against a wall.

The invention consists, first, in providing a table, adapted. to be' supported at any desired elevation, with a bracket foot-rest on the back lower girt for the operator; and, second, in the means by which the table may be raised or lowered and held firmly in place, as more fully hereinafter set forth.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the table. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same folded up.

In the drawing, A A represent two long legs, curved at their lower ends; and A A, two shorter inner legs, crossing the first, and pivoted thereto at a. B is a girt connecting the upper ends of the legs A. B is a girt connectin g the lower ends of the legs A. It has a bracket foot-rest, C, mortised in it. D is the table, having its rear corners pivoted at 1) between the upper ends of the legs A, on

the lower face of each of which a ratchet, c, is cut, with which may engage a pawl, d, pivoted to the outer side of each leg A, to sup port the table at any required elevation. c is a spring work-holder at each front corner of the table, convenient for holding dresses and other millinery-work being sewed or trimmed. ff are standards pivoted at the back edge of the table to fold down when not required, and are convenient for holding bonnets in process of being trimmed. g g are drawers under the front edge of the table, which are designed to contain tools used in work. They may 'be kept from sliding when the table is folded by spring-catches or other similar means.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, with the table D, adapted to be supported at any desired elevation, of the girt 13, having the bracket foot-rest C, as and for the purpose set forth.

2. A lap-table composed of the table D, supported by the legs A A, ratchet c, pawl d, girts B B, and bracket foot-rest C, all as and for the purpose set forth.
