PUTTY KNIFE.

The present invention has for its purpose to provide, in a utty knife, a lconstruction of handle for t e pivotal mounting of a plurality of tools, such as a screwdriver, jack-knife, can-opener, and tack-puller at one end, in conjunction with a hammer vpoll and a nail-puller at the other end, the head of the hammer having a socket for the reception of the shank of a chisel or blade or putty knife, there being means for holding any one or the other of the chisel, blade, or putty knife in the socket.

Another purpose is to provide a tool including these various implements whereby any of them may be ever ready and convenient for use in glazing windows and in performing their work wherein these various tools'are useful.

It is to be understood that the particulars herein given are in no way limitative and that, while still keeping within the scope of the invention, any desired modifications of detail and desired roportions may be made in the device according to the circumstances.

The invention comprises further features and combinations of parts to be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, and claimed.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the handle asa whole provided with a head `,2 at one end which comprises a hammer poll 3 and a nail-extracting claw 4. The head 2 'is also provided with a socket 5 for the reception of a shank 6 of a putty knife 7 vor the shank 6 of a chisel 8. The shank of each 'of the tools 7 and 8 has a depressed seat 1924. 9 with which the terminal portion of the shank of a thumbscrew 10 engages. This thumbscrew is threaded through the wall of the head so that its terminal portion will engage tlie depressed seat and thereby hold the shank of the putty knife or the shank of the chisel in the socket. Obviously the putty knife may be used for glazing windows or applying putty wherever it is useful.

The handle beyond the head 2 comprises the opposed parts or handle sides 11 between which at the other end of the handle on pivots 12 (the ends of which are swaged or otherwise headed) are j ack-knife screwdriver, can-opener, and tack-puller implements 13, 14, 15,-and 16, pivotallymounted. The work to be performed by these implements is clearly obvious. Furthermore, the implements may be folded between the sides of the handle when not in use. The opposite sides of the handle have kerfs or recesses 17y to permit the fingers of the operator to grasp any one of the implements 13, 14, 15, and 16 to open the implement.

A division wall 18 of resilient material is disposed between the two parts of the handle whch are separated to define a blade receiving space. This division wall extends along an axial median line of the handle and at its inner end is anchored to the handle, as indicated at 19. At an intermediate point in its length, it rests between and has bearing contact upon the pins 20 whichpass through the two sides of the handle and cross the intervening space between the sides.
