Description

P. MccAw s'cIssoRs June 1, 1937.
Filed Nov. 25, 1956 ATTORNEYS Patented June l, 1937 i UNTTED. STATES PATENT oFFlCI:
SCISSORS Perry McCaw, Sappho, Wash. Application November 25, 1936, Serial No. 112,792
3 Claims.
the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this specication,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pair of scissors constructed in accordance With the invention.
Figure 2 is a cross sectional View taken on the line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a. longitudinal sectional View through one of the shanks and showing a blade with-reversible cutting edges secured therein.
Figure 5 is a detail longitudinal sectional View taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a detail cross sectional view taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 4.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, I Il designates the Shanks of the scissors which terminate in handles II,
`the shanks being pivotally connected together at their crossing by a pivot pin I2.
A recess I3 is formed in the inner edge of each shank and is disposed at an angle to the flat face ofthe shank as best shown in Figure 2 and receives a blade I4 having two cutting edges I5. The blade is tapered at one end to conform to the contour of the shank, as best shown in Figure 4, and at the opposite end is provided with a lug I6 which is received in a notch I'I of substantially the same shape as the lug.
In order that each blade I4 may be retained in its recess a thumb and finger receiving recess IB is provided in the outer face of the shank I0. A latch I9, best shown in Figure 3, and preferably formed of spring Wire, is secured at one end to the shank by forming a groove in the shank and upsetting the material of the shank on opposite sides of the groove to provide tabs 2| which and clamp the latch to the ing 24 formed in the bottom of the groove 22 and in an opening formed in the blade I4.
In operation by inserting the thumb or finger in the recess I8 of the shank underneath the to disengage from the blade I4 whereupon the blade may be removed from its recess I3 and reversed to present the other cutting edge to the work when desired. By virtue of the latch lying flush with the outer side of the shank no obstructions will be presented during the cutting operation While at the same time the shape of of the latch and the recess I8 underneath it permit of the latch being operated easily and quickly by the fingers Without the use of tools.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the` invention will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is:
1. A pair of scissors including crossed shanks pivoted together at their crossing and terminating in handles, blades carried' by said shanks, thumb and finger receiving recesses in the outer faces of the Shanks, and spring latches carried by the shanks and extending across with the outer faces of the Shanks and terminally removably engaged in said Shanks and said blades.
2. A pair of scissors including crossed shanks pivoted together at registering blade to the shank.
3. A pair of scissors including crossed shanks pivotally connected together at their crossing and terminating in handles, each shank being prothumb and iinger receiving recess in the outer vided with a longitudinal recess in its inner edge, face of the shank across which said latch proa double edged blade in the recess having a lug jects, and an angularly bent extremity on the at one end, there being a recess in the shank latch engaged in said registering openings, there receiving the lug, said blade and said shank being a groove in the outer face of the shank having registering openings formed therein, a receiving the latch and permitting the latch to spring wire latch having one end fixed to the lie flush with the outer face of the shank.
shank by tabs struck from the outer face of the shank and overlapping the latch, there being a PERRY MCCAW.
