This invention relates to improvements ina box covers 'and the 'method of producing transparent box covers.

lnthe present state of the art paste board .box covers are made with a view or sight opening in thetop covered with a transparent material and are then filled and shipped with only the transparent material confining the contents at that section. The latter material becomes warped and deformed in transportation deteriorating the structure.

Also the transparent sheet is positioned on the inside of the paste board cover, necessitating a frame or other contrivance in addition to the cover structure.

Among other objects of my invention is to simplify and reduce the parts in a box cover having a view or sight opening; also to provide a detachable protective shield .for the transparent section included in the view opening and for the latter purpose I do not remove thecardboard material from the view opening but cut the material in sections so that it will be retained in place by small uncut sections adapted to be removed by the dealer thus preventing the transparent material contacting with the contents of the packedbox during transportation.

In order to effect this purpose and to simplify construction, 1 cut an opening inthe outer covering material and paste or glue the transparent material to the under surface of the latter and then paste the covering material to the paste board cover after view opening section has been slit as heretofore described.

Having thus generally described some of the more important featurts of my invention which includes both method and apparatus 1 will now more particularly describe the same by reference to the annexed drawing which is made a part of the specification and in which similar reference characters indicate identical parts. v

In the drawings there is disclosed a pasteor cardboard box cover 11 having a detachable protective shield 12. The detachable shield which is of the same material as, the box cover is not removed from the latter but is cut in sections so that it is retained by small uncut, preferably perforated, sections 13.

' The wrapper 14 is cut or stamped from suitable material, preferably paper, by means of dies adapted for the purpose and has a sight opening 15 of any desired-design. The under surface of the wrapper is covered with paste or glue, preferably waterproof, and a piece of transparent material 16 such as gelatin, is placed over the sight opening. The wrapper with the transparent material thus positioned is then secured to the box cover.

By thus securing the transparent material the latter is prevented from becoming warped or otherwise out of shape and does away with the necessity of having an additional frame or other. contrivance to hold it in place.

The box cover is applied to the box member 17 containing the articles to be displayed and the complete box with the attached protective shield 12 is ready to be shipped to the dealer. After the dealer receives the box he separates the protective shield from the box cover and the enclosed articles are displayed through the transparent sight opening.

Having thus described my invention and reserving for myself the right to alter and amend same within its purview, I claim:-

A box cover comprising a cardboard shaped to form a cover and provided with a sight opening, a detachable protective shield for the sight opening integral with said cardboard, a paper wrapper covering said cardboard provided with another sight opening registering with the cardboard sight opening, and a transparent element intermediate said wrapper and cardboard, gig element being permanently secured to said wrapper in such manner as to cover the sight opening.
