This invention relates to shuttle eeler thread porters and clamps whereby the out` going iilling is parted and clamped on re plenishmentiof filling and held for the action of the temple thread cutter.

Secured to the shuttle eeler is the fixed parting member or cutter 12, the cutting edge of which is adapted to cooperate With the movable. thread .parting and clamping member 13 which is herein shown as pivotally connected to the shuttle feeler by a. bolt or stud 14. The movable thread parting and clamping member 13 has a front tail portion 15, as usual, from which extends the pin 16 for cooperation With the opening trip 11 as the shuttle eeler moves to its rearward feeling position.
Secured to and extending laterally from the upper portion ot the shuttle feeler is a f fixed pin 17 which extends through an opening 18 formed in thexfront portion or" the movable thread partingend clamping memberl 13, and the opening 18 is of sufficient dimensions to permit the movable parting and clamping member td .move in its cutting and clamping operations,

From the construction vthus/"far described it will be apparent that the/movable parting and clamping member 12S/Will act upon the thread to cut it in cooperation With/ the lixed cutting or parting blade 12 at one side and that at its opposite side .will cooperate With the movable clamping member 19 to clamp the thread which leads towards the cloth selvage.
1n order that the parting and clamping member 13 and the movable clamping member,19 may be held in cooperative relation, aspring Washer 21 rests upon the outer face portion of the movable clamping member 19 between the head 22 o the bolt 14 and the movable parting member.
The end- 23 of the spring Washer 21 is turned inwardly and secured to the movable .clamping member 19, with the result that as the movablev clamping member 19 is moved on its pivotal supportv 17, it will cause the VWasher 21 to swing about its pivotal support le for a purpose that will presently ap ear. i

The thread positioner or lifter, as shown, is of the plate form, and its loweredge portion is provided with a cam surface 29v which extends from the end of the positiener or litter frontwardly in a progressively increasing curve which finally terminates at the point 30 at the lower edge of the lifter. The construction is such that as the progressively increasing curve 29 is met by the front edge portion of the lay, the litter will be progressively raised Without subjecting the overlying thread a to any undue shock or disturbance calculated to misplace it with respect to the parting and clamping members.
Extending upwardly from the movable clamping member 19 is an arm 31 which, as shown, is secured to the movable clamping member at its pivotal point, and the upper end portion 32 has connected to it a spring 33, the other end ot the spring being secured to a pin 3i on the shuttle feeler tending normally to depress the movable clamp ing member 19 and its connected lifter 24.
As vhereinbetore noted, the Washer 21 is secured at 23 to the movable clamping inember 19 and consequently is moved about its pivotal support 111 as the clamping member 19 is raised or lo'Wered The present invention takes advantage `of thisfact to pro-` vide a stop shoulderv 35y on the Washer to limit the downward or opening movement of the clamping. member and connected lifter under the action of the springl 33. -The shuttle feeler, as indicated in Fig. '5, is provided with a' slot 38 in which is pi otally supported at 39 the threadlifter 4 the lower edge surface 41 of which progre sively increases in curvature towards th front of the loom. The thread lifter 40 .has Jrhs upwardly extending arm 42 housed Withthereby in the feeler, and connected to the upper end of the arm 42 is a lspring 43, the other end of which is secured to a pin 4:4 which nortion, the tapering end portion 26 of thev thread lifter will pass beneath the thread a and as the lay moves frontwardly, the progressively increasing curved edge portion 29, 30 of the thread litter will beengaged by the lay and cause the thread lifter, and with it the movable clamping member, to be turned about their pivotal support 17 against the tension of the spring 33 to position the thread, irst, as indicated in Fig. 3, and then as the lay finally reaches its full frontward tl1row, ithe litter and movable clamping member will have the thread positioned as indicated in Fig.- +L, ready for the action of the thread parter and clamp, and as the thread parting and clamping member 13 is actuated during frontward movement of the lay, the movable thread clamping member 19 Will lift the thread aiready positioned by the thread positioner, so that as the movable parting and clamping member 13 closes, it will first act to Clamp the thread and then cut it, so that as the shuttle t'eeier moves to its front position, the end leading to the clot-h selvagge will be held by the clamping members to present the thread to the temple thread cutter.
What is claimed is:
1. In a loom, the combination of a' shuttle feeler having a thread `parting and clamping member, a thread lifter for positioning Vthe thread for engagement by the parting and clamping member and actuated by relative movement of the lay and shuttle feeler, and a second clamping member moved" by the thread lifter to present the thread for the .clamping action of the two clamping members.
2. In a loom, the combination of a, shuttle feeler having a fixed thread parter and a movable combined thread parting and clamping member.- a thread lifter for positioning the thread for engagement by said member and 'actuated by relative movement ot the lay and shuttle feeler, and a second clamping member which is moved by the thread lifter asit is actuated to place the thread for engagement of the two clamping .members before it is parted.
3. In a loom, the combination of a shuttle feeler having thread parting and clamping men'ibers, a thread lifter extending from one ot' the clamping members and adapted to be actuated by relative movement of the lav and shuttle feeler to lift the thread and 'cause the clamping member from which it extends to be moved to place the thread for engagement between the clamping members.

5.
