Description

NTTED STATES PATn T JOHN BRUGGER AND SEBASTIAN CHRISTOPHE, OF MANCHESTER, N. H.
IMPROVEMENT lN HOODS.
Specification forming'part of Letters Patent No. 159,497, dated February 9, 1875; application filed December 5, 1874.
GMT: A.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN BRUGGER and SEBASTIAN GHRIsToPHE, both of Manchester, Hillsborough county, New Hampshire, have invented an Improved Hood, of which the following is a specification:
' Our invention relates to hoods worn for protection from cold and inclement weather; and consists in a hood of novel construction, composed of woolen yarn or worsted, or other Warm material, to form a covering for the head, face, and neck of the wearer, as will be fully hereafter described.
Figure 1 is a side view of the hood. Fig. 2 illustrates the manner in which it is Worn.
This hood is so constructed as to cover the head, face, and neck, or neck and shoulders, of the wearer. A is the section which envelops the head; B, that which covers the forehead O O, cheek-pieces; D D, the sections for covering the nose, mouth, and chin; E, the section corresponding to the neck, and F the cape covering the shoulders.
It will be perceived that the cape opens in front, and is buttoned up over the face, neck, and chest by the buttons and. loops at b, and
that when so closed no features are left exposed but the eyes.
Instead of the opening being directly in front it may be a little to one side, so as to more perfectly protect the features.
The use of this hood will prevent the great suffering experienced in the face and neck by prolonged exposure to great cold, as it serves as a mask for the face, and a muffler for the neck, while it also acts as a respirator, to warm the air inspired.
We claim- As a new and improved article of manufacture, a knit hood composed of woolen yarn, worsted, &c., constructed with the sections 0 D, for covering the face, and the sections E and F, for protecting the neck, shoulders, and chest, the article being open in front, and provided with means for keeping it closed over the face, neck, and chest when worn, substantially as described and specified.
